Has anyone ever used a Wilson drop in or GS fit barrel? I have read alot about Kart and others here just dont recall reading anything about Wilson barrels.

Anyone tried? Good? Bad? Ugly?

I am only curious becuase my KZ45 is pretty darn accurate and the chamber is tighter than what is on my Kimber. I dont have my Colt any longer to compare it to.

Thanks!

Ozark,
As I understand it, ANY so-called dropin barrel MAY or MAY NOT require some fitting. In the case of your KZ, the barrel definitely HAS been fitted by Wilson gunsmiths. Putting a Wilson or any other dropin barrel in a pistol is unlikely to give that level of accuracy (your KZ) without tweaking.

Good shooting and be safe. :)

LHB1,
Thanks for the reply, although that wasnt quite what I was looking for. I am more curious why I havent read about anyone who is replacing a barrel not choosing Wilsons. I understand that Kart, Nowlin and others are really good but was only wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them.

I have a couple of Wilson barrels. One is probably the most accurate .45 barrel/gun I own and the other is about as good as any other brand, as far as I can tell with my ammo and ability. Both required fitting, one took serious all contact area gunsmith fitting in spite of the "drop-in" label.

The more accurate one gave mystery misfeeds until FLG figured out that the chamber was grossly undersize and recut it with a sharp new reamer. It is still accurate, just not with the same loads.

You don't get that sort of variability from Kart. The only way I would buy another Wilson barrel would be in a Wilson gun.

Hey Jim! Thanks for the reply, that is exactly what I was looking for. Looks like you had some of the good and the bad with your experience.

Would like to hear more about them tho.

Regards!

Ozark - is shipping the slide to wilson for a barrel fit not an option? I think if you buy the barrel they will fit it for free or a nominal charge.
