Hi guys I bought a trapper 1894 winchester in 30-30. It's a very cool gun but I do have one problem in particular, my rear "buckhorn" sights are in fact devil horns, naturally I grab the gun in the center when picking it up off the ground or out of a gun rack and just about every time the rear sight seems to scuff, scrape or stab me right in the web of my thumb. I'm sure you can imagine how annoying this is getting, while I know I can file down the pointy ends and then touch up the exposed steel I'm interested in seeing if there are other options out there, I saw tru-glo makes an 1894 fiber optic set, would those work with a post-64 winchester trapper? is there any others I should consider, I'm interested in modern sights that aid in quick target acquisition so I can us this rifle as a brush gun.
Any help is much appreciated!
Regards,

I did some quick google foo, its Probably best to confirm, but it looks like XS sights offers a set for the trapper. I have a bolt mounted peep on my rossi and much prefer the peep configuration to standard opens.

Again this was me googling....It also seems williams offers their fire sights for the trapper.

I wasn't aware of the williams, I saw the XS which I like their pistols sights but I haven't seen a video of how it mounts their website says 1894 trapper and optics planet says they are AE which my gun isn't an angle ejector. It just freaks me out a little cause the 1894 has been in production for 100+ years and there are a lots of changes and variants in that long of a production run.

I have a pre AE Trapper that I like a lot. It was drilled & tapped for a receiver sight and carries an older, but very fine, Lyman receiver sight.
