I want to make my Winchester 94 in .30-30 a little more user friendly for deer season. It has the factory semi-buckhorn sights on it now, which are by far the worst sights ever invented, although I have killed a couple deer using them. So, can anybody recommend a good peep sight? I don't care if it is receiver or tang mounted, but I'd prefer a non-gunsmithing solution. The rifle was made in 1966-1967 so it has a top eject and no safety other than half-cock.

NO SCOPES

thanks,

I have an old Williams 5D sight on mine (so old that it actually cost $5.00) and it serves very well. One good thing is that it doesn't screw up the balance and carryability of the rifle.

A tang sight would be nice, too.

1966-1967?

I don't believe any of them were drilled & tapped for receiver or tang sights by then.

I would second the Williams 5D, or Foolproof receiver sight, or a Marbles tang sight, but either one will require gunsmith installation.

Lyman also makes a tang sight, but it is not windage adjustable like the Marbles.

I know I was able to put a William sight on my Marlin with any issues or drilling. Not sure about the Winchester though, it's worth a look. Some of the best money I've spent on a gun accessory ever!

I have a Winchester 94 in .30-30 and I replaced the the sights with Williams 'Fire sights' Peep on the rear and a fiber optic for the front. Mine was a simple installation with the hardest part was installing the front, it is a drift but was still easy.
On a 94 that old, you may need to take it to a gunsmith. I hardily endorse the product, if that helps.

Thanks

The tang doesn't have any hole drilled except the one for the stock screw. The side of the receiver opposite the loading gate has quite a few holes drilled but they have screws in them.

I'll try a receiver sight for starters

Most of the tang sights will force you to change your grip as you can no longer wrap your thump aroung the stock. The tang sights being taller are somewhat fragle compared to the rieciever models.
I have a tang sight on my marlin cowboy because I was useing it in cowboy shoots .
I have the Lyman reiciever tangent peep on my two 94's (30-30 and a 32 win sp) and my rossi puma.
A peep will complete a lever gun!
