Winchester M70 Extreme Weather SS or Remington M700 Mountain SS...?

I may have been on of the maligners. I’ve had a few break on rifles that get a lot of use.

For a hunting rifle they work just fine.

At $10/pop? Consider'em disposable.

(Though have yet to break one. Taking care of the several hundred dollar scope seems to have a residual effect on the covers.)

:D

P.S. Any help out there RE: the cover sizes for the VXi 2.5-8x36mm?

GR

Well the occular is a standard size for Leupold and I’ve ordered 13s for a half dozen from VX-1, VX-2, VX-Freedom, and Mark ARs. I don’t own a Leupold with a 36mm objective but I’d feel confident trusting the chart.

Coincidentally, or not, the two pictured below have 20mm objectives and use 1” Butler Creek covers which would be (rounded down) 25mm. The scope you’re inquiring about has a 36mm objective and 1.6” outter diameter puts it a hair under 41mm (40.64mm) or an alottment of roughly 5mm for the scope body on all of them. The #15 objective cover is listed at 39.6mm (1.599”) or 1mm smaller than your dimension. Next size larger is 1.612” (#17).

2016 CDL,30-06 with 3-9X40 Luepold..... 20190304_135324_resized_1.jpg 175g cast bullet with a case full of IMR4350 @2650fps is my heavy varmint rig. Will tear a beercan up @200. 7 month old Dobe is my hunting partner.

Absolutely Beeeautiful machine.

Fit/finish is outstanding, points like a bird gun, action is smooth, trigger breaks light - like an icicle.

Shoppin' for some Talley scope mounts - should get away w/ the extra low.

Nice looking combo!
I'm thinking a model 70 maybe in my semi near future.

I guess I am too late to post that I went with a Tikka T3 SS in 7-08 and a Weaver Superslam scope. I think I have the perfect rifle.

Stainless steel and black synthetic stock. I think it is a lite. I don't recall for sure.

Randy Newberg - thinks pretty highly of the 7mm-08 as well...

Thanks. Great video. I agree 100%. I used to prefer a 7 MM Mag but due to severe injury to my shoulder I had to use a .223 for deer until I could get comfortable with a 7-08. I see no reason to use anything else. Mr. Newberg is a noted expert Elk hunter and his views are well proven.

That scope ring choice makes for a beautifully proportioned rig, not that it needs my blessing but I heartily approve!

The angle doesn't show it, but the ring height are so low... the scope bell hits the base before the barrel.

As is, the bell is shimmed off the base the thickness of a folded receipt tape, which leaves ~ 1/8" of tube in front of the forward ring and about the same clear b/t the bell and the Bbl.

If I want that 1/8", will need to rat-tail file a notch in the front edge of the base.

If I were wereg to straight up duplicate a setup it just might be this one. Nice rifle!

Do these mounts hold as well as steel. Five years later, you drop it waist high onto a hard clay road. Them still GTG?

Well...

Don't rightly know.

- They are made out of 7000 series Aluminum alloy, which is at the top of the schedule for that material strength.

- They are also one-piece, so the weak link failure point connection has been eliminated.

...and they were only $35 at O.P..

:D

I’d trust Talley for anything short of bombproof (at which point you’d simply be mistreating the rifle). Best looking rings there are IMO

And they use big Torx head screws.

Grease the threads and heads and they snug up tight, really nice and solid, w/ just finger pressure using the included wrench.

Impressed.
