7mm-08 is pretty darn hot for a medium sized game round.

Hot? Please explain. I think Winchester/FN did great by offering this rifle in 7mm-08 for medium sized game. Many consider the 7-08 to be in the "entry level" category. I'm not one of those people, I see it for what it is. But hot? I myself would like to see it chambered in 300 Savage. Or perhaps 35 Whelen. But, it is what it is & you can find a good caliber to shoot out of the ten that it comes in.

I have a Sporter LT in 300WM that I've had cut down to 24" with target crown. It's an exceptional rifle, kudos to Winchester for refining great technology and making it affordable. If I were to go dangerous game hunting the M70 would get the nod.

I have a very nice WInchester Model 70 featherweight in 30-06. I absolutely love it. I think you will be very happy if you purchase this gun as it can do multiple things for you.

I got one a few week before deer season ended in 30-06. I never realy liked a bolt gun always hunted with a lever action. Now that being said I love the Featherweight!!!!!!!!! Took two deer and one hog, the triggers are very nice for a factory gun I will always adjust the triggers on my guns or replace them didn't need to with the Winchester.
