Winchester Model 94 forearm

I have a 1956 Winchester Model 94 .32WS that the forearm is a little loose. It was really loose because the front barrel band and barrel band screw threads were stripped. I replaced the band and the screw and it's a lot better but still not right. Are there any tricks I can use to tighten it up?

Is the forend seated all the way back against the frame? If that's not it, I would try some shims on the inside of the forend. Strips of aluminum from a beer can will work. Move them around until you find a place where the forend is tight. Probably not the best solution but without seeing the gun, that's the best I have to offer.

I saw a youtube video where a guy said there was a way to tighten them up with a piece of string. The video was about something else and he only mentioned the string thing in passing. It sounded like it was a well known trick. I was hoping somebody here might know it. Aluminum shims or string, probably the same idea. I thank you for your suggestion Coyote3855 and will give that a try.

I've used sticky back felt cut in strips.

I've not heard of string. But id guess a piece pit between the receiver and forearm end would do the trick.
