To the OP:

Pardon, I didn't realize you were considering a Carbon-15.

Don't....

While I'd skip the carbon version, I don't see how the Windham née Bushmaster would have substantial issues.

You should have seen the negative posts about the S&W Sport...until owners gave glowing reports. Mine has been stellar.

Windham rifles are ok, but not the carbon 15. This is not a rifle made of carbon fiber, just plastic. Trying to duplicate a forged receiver with plastic of the same size does not work very well. Lots of photos to look at. Buy the forged rifle.

I agree with avoiding any AR type rifle with both the upper and lower made from plastics.
Poly lowers combined with mil type aluminum uppers are OK but neither will match the durability of metal on metal.

I'm not going to get into the fan boy mil-spec arguement but there are some things Windeham/Bushmaster could do better.
The same can be said for EVERY other AR rifle manufacturer out there, Colt included.

Bushmaster uses Carpenter 58 steel bolts BTW...

Yeah the M&P sport is one heck of a rifle. A Windham AR isn't a bad rifle. Most shooter would never tell the difference in shooting it and a Daniel a Defense. I just advise steering way clear of any polymer/plastic/carbon fiber AR. Windham is still doing a lot of the things they did when they were Bushmaster, such as 1-9 twist barrel, using 6061 aluminum, etc. if you are going to give $800 for a Windham, spend the extra $250 for a Colt. They truly are made better than a Windham.

I don't want to stir the pot any more than it seems to be being stirred now, but if I may:
M4 Carbine.net may be able to give you much better answers to this question as the entire site seems to be dedicated to M4's and AR's.
There is a comparison chart there that will lay out all of the answers for you. What it will come down to is,
What do you intend to do with the rifle, how much money are you willing to spend and how much research can you handle?
In the end of a camparison like this, it would seem for a couple of hundred dollars more you will be far better served with a Colt 6920.
I do not want to fan the fires any hotter than they already seem to be, but there you have it.
