Yep, I am in squad 9 and shooting at 12:30. I plan to go over on Saturday afternoon and stay over night since it is a 3-3.5 hour drive for me.

WOW!!! What a great match we had yesterday! I hope everyone had as good a time as I did. :) My favorite stage was #11, the "shoot house". A big thanks to all of the SO's and the match director, Steve Dickow; and the IDPA area coordinator Dr. Jim ____(? dangit, I can't remember his last name).

His name was Jim "Doc" Williams from Firearms Training Associates.

I had a good time also, even though I had some mental problems and dropped some points that I shouldn't of.

So many thanks to all the effort put in by the workers at the Holmen Rod and Gun Club and I plan to see you next year, God willing.

cobb: re: dropping points - me too! There were a couple stages that I just had a brain fart or something. Oh well, I'll do better next time. :) Jim Williams really is a Dr. isn't he? Or is it just his nickname...?

Anyway, maybe I'll run into you at a club match sometime.

I thought there was going to be a few from THR at the Wisconsin State IDPA shoot, any comment anyone?

I did good on the more complex stages, it was the more simple ones that I tried to run faster than I really should have and dropped the points, like a head shot pulled low into the body and scored a miss, ouch. Just those simple few points that I dropped left me in 5th instead of a solid 2nd place in my division.

I don't know if Jim "Doc" Williams is a doctor or not, we visited briefly at the hospitality room in the motel the night before the match and we exchanged business cards. His card was for Firearms Training Associates and his name was printed as Jim "Doc" Williams on the card.

Don't think I will make it to a regular match at Holmen, too long of a drive, but I am planning to make the state shoot next year. I do shoot IDPA matches in Faribault, MN., just about every week though, and a couple friendly non-sanctioned matches a month in Mankato, MN.

Yep - Jim's a real Dr. And a real helluva nice guy.

Anyway, glad you guys like the match (I know I did!)

I was one of the SO's at the "Honey I'm Home" shoot house and was really impressed with how well everyone did on that stage. It was a really neat experience watching people's reactions when they were working the stage - lots of competitors displayed heavy breathing, extreme target focus on the last BG they shot at, and a tendency to run at the mouth nervously afterwards (classic stress induced logorrhea ).

I was also impressed with how safe everyone was when they were shooting it (though I will say that both myself and the other SO on that stage were wearing body armor). But because of that - I wouldn't be surprised to see more types of these "blind" stages at future WI State matches. This is what IDPA should be all about.

Sadly, it was also apparent that a few of the competitors were briefed ahead of time about the layout of the shoot house by other members of their squad. This made a lot of the SO's angry to the point where we discussed recommending an entire squad receive a match DQ - we were also informed later by some experienced shooters that on other stages, while one of them was “on deck†and facing uprange, they were using hand signals to indicate the placement of No Shoots! I mean - Come on! How pathetic can you possibly get???

Overall – it was by far the best State match IDPA has ever seen, next year though I’m taking the Monday after off. That 3.5 hour drive to Milwaukee after was a bummer.

See you next year!

So Dolomite, which SO where you on that stage? The one that Jim used for a shooter with the blue gun at the SO certification on Saturday?

As far as using hand signals or giving a run down on a stage, I bet those people even cheat at games at family get togethers. Why do they waste their time and money, if the want it that bad, just call up a local trophy shop and get your first place trophy made, it would be cheaper. Oh, maybe they did. :uhoh:

Our squad went through "Honey I'm Home" in late afternoon, and that is why I assume the SO's made us go to a group by one of the cars below the stage, a few just can't be trusted. We knew a group that went through in the morning, and all they would say is, boy are you going to like the "Honey I'm Home stage, no more, and that's the way I would want it to keep the fun in it. I also liked, I think it was called "Pop Goes the Weasal", stage one.

Again, good job guys.

No, I didn't stick around for the SO training session - of the two SO's at "Honey, I'm Home" I was the bigger guy - Craig.

Yeah, "Pop" on stage 1 was probably my third most favorite stage (after the Stage 11 and the stage where you open the window and a target goes rolling by). Nothing like 7 targets all coming out at once!

Craig - Mark here, I was in Matt Burkett's course a couple weeks ago with you and you were my SO for Stage 11. I was shooting a USP .45 Compact and am ranked a marksman. That was one of my best stages of the match. :) 28.17 with 2 points down.

Welcome to TheHighRoad.org!

Sounds like you guys had a BLAST.... Wish my conflicts would of gone away, so I could of shot.
