I sent in ye olde .410 Youth frame in July to have these barrels fitted:

16 ga. 28" Full
12 ga. 22" Mod
28 ga. 22" Mod
20 ga. 24" Rifled Slug with rifle sights
.50 Cal 26" (1 in 28" twist) "

They came in today! Everything was boxed and wrapped very well, the muzzleloader setup even has nice fiber optic sights on it, and I'm dying to take 'em all out with a pile of ammo to pattern!

Well, all except the 12 gauge barrel, that combo is VERY light...

Methinks a recoil pad is in order, as the stock has a buttplate right now. :uhoh:

I would definitely get a Limbsaver for the 12g barrel. I bought one of their Survivor 12g awhile back and discovered how easily a 5 1/2 lb shotgun can bruise up a person. And I don't bruise easily. Ended up putting a regular synthetic stock so it matched the forearm and put a Limbsaver on it. Sweet relief! That was the only firearm I ever disliked shooting prior to the Limbsaver cure. My father-in-law has a 10g NEF. One day I'll try it. Once. He said I can as long as he can watch. For a mild-mannered man, he can sometimes be a sick pup!

I have grown accustomed to shooting it despite the short length of pull, but I plan on making some adjustments now that it will have more recoil. My arms aren't that long anyway, so I think the added LOP from the recoil pad will do pretty well on its own, but we'll see...

The gun itself arrived assembled as a muzzleloader in one of the boxes, and I noticed they put my stock Schnabel forend on the 28 gauge barrel, sounds like a hint to me... :D The fit and finish of the Huntsman setup is very nice, and I'm betting that 28 will handle real nice as well. Time to stock up on ammo!

Thanks for the recommendations on recoil pads.

I really want one of these. I've been hankering for some "oddball" caliber guns like 22 Hornet and .500SW and really would rather not buy several guns. This is the greatest buy going.

Sounds like a collection in one gun as with an Encore. :D I got a 20 gauge NEF for the kid, mistake. The trigger was so stiff she couldn't pull it. I had a smith work the trigger and he did a good job, got it down acceptable, but the thing kicked so hard, daughter preferred my Winchester 12 gauge 1400 to the 20 gauge NEF, less recoil, LOL! However, I thought about taking that thing and doing something grown up with it, maybe cut it to 18" and put a polychoke on it for travel or something, but I sold it to a friend whose son needed a shotgun.

Single shots like the NEF are kinda cool. I have an old single shot in 16 gauge I haven't shot in years, need to buy some ammo and give it a workout sometime. It's still very tight and a nice old piece. I killed my first geese with that gun and the memory of the hunt is still etched in my mind. WOW, I was excited. :D

Well, dang. I just sent my H&R out to them to have a 410 and 28 ga barrel fitted. I hope I'll have it back before Christmas, though going by your timeline I may not.

The blackpowder barrel was the holdup. Turnaround times were as quick as a couple weeks earlier in the year.

I still want a Handi-Rifle with barrels in 22 Hornet, 45-70, etc.

I've heard more people complain about the recoil in the 20 ga. models than anything else, even my brother thought his kicked hard, and he likes the 12 gauge models!

Single Shot 12 gauge typically will have more recoil simply because the guns weighs so "little" in relation to payload . Rule of 96 if you will.

MY recommendation for Single shot shotgun have always been 20 gauge and smaller, just for this reason, especially in Youth sizes.

28 gauge is just flat THE ticket and gets the most grins, smiles and happy-dances. :D

Recoil complaints on the 20 are valid, still IMO/IME the reason some say the 12 is "less to them" over a 12, is (a) gun fit ((b) correct mounting and basics of shooting.

12 ga - folks will "think" as "this light gun with them loads are going to hurt"
So, they correctly mount gun to face and use proper technique.

20 ga - folks get Complacent. "Just a yellow shell, this won't hurt" and Improperly just toss the gun up and shoot.

Makes a difference...

30-30 in these Configs are popular here.
Lady I have known forever uses one for Deer Hunting.
At first the recoil "bugged her".
So I got her involved in shooting some skeet, to assist with bird hunting.

She picked up on shotgunning real fast. Gun Fit and Correct Basics and "duh, my gun does not fit".
So we fit her Single Shots, including the one with the 30-30 set up , Pach Decel, and raised the comb, and she does NOT have a problem with recoil.

She likes these Single Shots, accomplished shooter, hunter and all.

From learning gun fit, she got her Win 94 fitted, with a Pach Decel.

Gun fit , Pach Decel, Correct Basics - makes one a better shooter - Mentors

Oh, she has one single shot 30-30 set up with scope, the other iron sights.

Funny, but true.

Goofing off, not being serious she shoots a running Spike Buck, with the iron sighted 30-30 single shot.

Gets this deer in and checked.

Comes back to just shoot the breeze and goof off...toting a single shot shotgun, with the idea she "might" take some small game (rabbit , squirrels) with this shotgun or .22 pistol (hand gun hunter too).

She is carrying some 20 ga slugs. "Just because" and "what one does".

Sneezing Fit. I mean she gets to sneezing! Blowing her nose with a gray bandanna, and Sneezing. Finally...stops and put up this bandanna and this HUGE Buck, crashes through from the thicket and running full bore 20 steps lateral to her in this "less thick" area.

One 20 bore slug on the run from a plain bone stock, single shot H&R Topper with bead sight.

Check in place : "You back again- so soon?"

:D

Of course we tease her:
"We have got to record that sneezing fit and nose blowing , we will make a fortune with a Buck Call".

Neat guns these all are -proven and still proving.
