And I'm looking for replacement screws and nuts/fasteners for the scales.

The ones I'm looking for are brass and are probably made custom for just the knife. The thread on one of the screws got hit and messed the thread up a little.

So now I either want to replace or run a thread chaser on it to fix the threads. Will make sure all of them are good to go before putting the knife back together.

Anyone have any better ideas or where to find replacement pieces?

Yeah, I was thinking about contacting them but wasn't sure what they might have. And while I think they do a great job on other knives, I think that they missed it when it comes to the EK line.

Looked at places like McMaster Carr but didn't see what I was looking for.

So, guess I'll have to at least give Ka-Bar a call, maybe they'll know who might have some.

If the threads aren't too messed up, you can probably just clean them up with a steel nut that matches the threads. Run it on and off a few times with some oil and it should be fine.

If you can clean up those bolts I'd use them as is... The original Ek blades were rugged, nothing fancy, just solid field pieces used in very bad places during WWII... and a few wars afterwards.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll try out the steel nut idea. I'm sure it will be cheaper than buying a thread chaser/tap and die kit.

I want to get the knife done, been busy with other things and had put the knife aside.

HSO,
The knife didn't have pins in place, basically the handles held it and the guard has a notch that holds it in place also.

Unless they fell out before I bought it and were never replaced. The design of it seems strong enough, we'll see.

I have had several of the Effingham Eks and the guard on a couple got loose, but guards on others were stable. I'd never looked at the blade with the handles/guard off to notice the holes that I assume are for pins.

Does the guard fit loose or is it going to have to be driven forward to fit in place?
