Not sure if this belongs in Activism - feel free to move.

I work in a small engineering firm. We do a "Lunch and Learn" presentation every Friday. The company provides lunch and we watch an educational video. The topics are submitted by the employees. As an example, today we spent our lunch eating fried chicken and watching this video - Biofuels: Think Outside the Barrel

The topics are usually at least 30 minutes and typically a third party recording. We don't present anything other than the introduction to the topic if it is selected.

I'm sure you can see where this is going - Has anyone ever seen a good pro gun presentation/video? I've come across a few via a google search, but they all seem to be in the 5-7 minute range. I'm looking for something a bit longer.

Perfect!

Thanks Geek. That is what I was looking for.

I think the second link you provided looks the best for the audience here.

I'll have to save my pennies for a bit. Most likely until after Christmas since it is a bad time to be spending money on myself.

Thanks again.

Second for Innocents Betrayed

If you can use an hour, the DVD "Innocents Betrayed" is mostly actual movie history clips put into perspective by narration. At $29.95 it is a bargain as it is a really high quality presentation.

Just about everyone in the management team where I work has now seen it.

Powerful pro-gun program.

I think a copy of Penn and Teller's Bull**** episdoe on gun control would be best for two reasons:

1. They are recognizeable third party (meaning not related to any gun groups) figures so people won't automatically assume they are biased gun nuts. Plus they are famous, and your average person will dedicate more attention towards someone famous than someone they don't know.

2. The show is not boring. Other 2A videos will put me to sleep, and that's coming from someone with an interest in the topic. Non gun people will turn their brains off the minute you get some old professor talking about the grammatical meaning of the 2A.

You just might have to edit out some swearing.

I second the Pen & Teller show. I came across it on YouTube some time back, although it's probably been pulled due to copyright issues by now.

Those guys can make the back of a cereal box interesting.

A big 3rd for the Penn & Teller show, they know what they are talking about and they even let some anti's speak in the video. Sure they destroy what the anti's say after they get done talking, but at least they let them say it.

I'll 4th Penn & Teller

I've used it to successfully "challenge" and "convert" several family members.

Not to jump on the bandwagon but I have to agree 100% that the Penn and Teller video would entertain and enlighten. Entertainment is important when trying to get a point across that many persons may already feel strongly about. Even if someone is an anti they are more likely to pay attention if they are entertained than if they can just "zone out" the presentation.

Find a few to preview

I'm going to find/purchase a few of these videos to preview. I'll bring this post back once I find one and the response I get here at work.

Just watched the penn and teller show and these guys know how to educate and not put "spin" on a topic. The NRA should sponsor these guys

Does P&T have a PG rated version of their show? Some of that language is not workplace appropriate.

Penn and Teller would probably not be appropriate for a workplace. I would suggest some of the other videos.

Though if Penn and Teller is ok with you, then by all means enjoy it. You can buy their boxsets of "Bull****" over at Amazon. I am not sure what season has the gun control episode though.

Be aware there is a lot of nudity on the show as well as swearing.

Or the NRA Katrina video -

Or the 20/20 segment Geraldo did on gun control.

I would suggest that "Innocents Betrayed" is WAY too intense for a mixed audience of non-gun folks. The visual imagery is repulsive in the extreme. I understand that this is to make a point and that it conveys truth, but.... You will have non-linear folk who will be so overloaded emotionally that they will not be able to absorb the FACTS being presented. They will simply have a recollection later of being talked to about guns and feeling horribly revolted. That is all they will remember, and they will be unlikely to let anyone talk to them about guns ever again in the future because it has left an unpleasant taste in their mouth.

I DO think that IB is an important work and should be viewed by everyone who is solidly in the pro-gun camp to help make them aware of the political aspects of why gun control is wrong, but I wouldn't subject a cross section of the general public to it.

PG version

As someone already said, I'd need a PG version of the P&T show. Several church elders and the like that work here. The message would be missed due to the disgust of the language.

I haven't purchased any of these yet. Anybody have a copy they would be willing to rent out for the cost of mailing. (I can provide references from Blockbuster that all my videos are returned on time. :) )
