I may do just that. The prices I've seen on used rugers is the easiest to swallow. I'll handle everything I can, and hopefully find something nice thats used. The more I read about the 1911 platform the more I like it, but they seem to hold their value so well that used doesn't necesarrily save you a whole lot of money.
Thanks for all the replies.

Some used and well cared for handguns will actually bring as much or sometimes even more that the curent new models. If it goes out-of-production then all bets are off and prices can go anywhere, but usually they point upward. It's all in what you are looking for.

I recently bought a cz pcr. a compact version of the cz75. It's awesome. you can't go wrong with a cz. I'll get the conversion kit when I save the money because it will be fun and you can shoot it ALOT for cheap. The 9mm is not too much to handle especially in a full size gun. Check out czforum.com for advice on the cz lineup. those guys are awsome.

Not as inexpensive as the CZ75, but don't pass on looking at the Browning Hi Power 9mm, if you see a nice used one!
The Wally World bulk 100 box is really a great deal.
CCI Blazer specials are getting close to that price point also (for 9mm).
