Would this Thompson Center Encore setup be an SBR?

I am seriously thinking that I would like to buy a TC Encore pistol with a 15" .308 barrel. I would like to have the barrel threaded and pin a flash hider / suppressor mount to bring the barrel length over 16" and then put a rifle stock on it to bring the oal above 26".

Would this set up actually exceed 26"? Would this be a legal "not-quite-an SBR"?

Down the road I would be looking to complete a Form 1 and buy a ~10" 300 Blackout barrel and make it true SBR, but I think this would be a great start without the immediate expense and wait. Thoughts?

No. If you start out with the pistol, and add a barrel that meets the definition of "permanent" attachment for the flash hider so it is >16" and then add a stock which makes the whole thing >26," you would be fine.

Hi
I actually did this very thing a few years back

Encore receiver

Choate folding stock

15" 308 pistol barrel with AR-15 flash hider threaded and welded in place.

Made for a very light gun. But if I was going to do it over again I would use a 223 rifle barrel and cut it down to 16.5 inches long.

Lot cheaper that way and the pistol barrel did not give me the long range accuracy I liked.

Thanks Kid, and I'm glad to hear it worked for you. The reason for this build is that we can hunt suppressed in Kentucky, and I've been trying to come up with host for the Specwar 762 that I just ordered. They're not short suppressors, and I was looking for a good, maneuverable host that would be good for 200 - 250 yards. My hope is that this will be just about right. I will eventually add a full length barrel in .308 and .223 for long range shooting and SBR 300 BLK for pure fun.

On your build did you use a fluted barrel? I've seen a few slightly used 308 pistols for sale with fluted bbls and want to be sure there is enough solid barrel to thread before the fluting starts.
