I see Lee lists the VMD as .084. I have seen in other threads that it fills the case well. .084 seems dense, for example Bullseye is about .1064, HP38 about 0.956. Promo (caculated) .14, Autocomp .078.
Larger VMD=less dense, more "fluffy"
Getting ready to order 4lbs if it is still available.
Anybody with info what a ceretain size Lee disk will throw using WSF?
(I can then caculate the VMD) cc/gr thrown=VMD
Also not much for listed loads that I see.
Favorite loads 9mm or .45 ACP?
Might be a little slow for .45 ?????.

PS: just orderd 4 lbs from Graf and Sons, (so they still have it) would have liked to try a lb first but...
ya take what ya can get.
(Please don't tell me it's a terrible powder for those two rounds:eek:, wondering why they have had it in stock as long as they have. 4lbs @ $78 =$19.50lb)

The lee chart that comes with the PAD/discs has orifice sizes for WSF. As with every powder, you need to weigh charges to confirm the actual amount your press throws. For example, my .37 orifice throws 4.1 grains WSF, and my .40 orifice throws 4.5. This is a few tenths lower than the chart indicates, which is common for most powders.

Can someone confirm that a smaller VMD equals GREATER case fill relative to weight? It makes no sense to me that Promo/red dot would fill less of the case than WSF or HP-38.

That's backwards, right?

Promo is way "fluffier" than WSF or HP-38 and fills case way better.

I haven't measured, but 3.6gr of WSF probably fills 1/2 the case. I don't have experience with other powders, but I wonder how VMD is calculated.

Lees vmds are too low. I've been creating my own, I've gotten to where i can get the powder measure to weigh correctly in 2 sometimes 3 tries now. I use it more as an additional weight check. I'm not sure about the fill value but 6.8 of aa7 fills a 9 mm about the same as 3.9 of n320 and n320 has a higher vmd.

For example a .53 disk throws 3.8 grns of Promo for me. So .53/3.8 = .1395 VMD call it .14 a .3 disk should be about 3.8 grs of Autocomp for a VMD of about .078. The disks are in cc so .53 cc is larger (more space taken up by powder )
Larger VMD, less dense, more space taken up in the case. smaller VMD more dense less space taken up in the casee.
(edit had this backward myself)
Yes I know when I get the powder I need to take a guess at the disk size, throw charges and weigh on a couple of my scales to see what the disk throws.

1kperday's WSF
So if a .37 disk throws 4.1 gr VMD is .090 .40 disk 4.5 gr VMD is .0888 so lets call it .089 for WSF Using 1kperdays measure, powder and loading technique,
not as dense as Lee shows. (usually the case)

I have found some listed VMDs to be very close Universal for example and some way off.
Unique is listed at .1092 but for me the caculated VMD (disk size in cc)/(gr of powder) = VMD .132 At listed a .43 disk would be about 4gr for me it takes the .53 disk to get 4gr.

I always weigh what a disk is throwing (some powder varies more lot to lot than others) but the VMD is handy to get an approximation fo what a disk will throw.

Can someone confirm that a smaller VMD equals GREATER case fill relative to weight?
I think you have it backwards. Larger VMD = less dense=more space taken up for the same weight.

It worked very well for me in 9MM. Never tried it in .45 ACP.

It's a dense flattened ball powder, like AA #5, HS6, etc etc.

Sounds like it will work.:D Was getting worried because it was in stock so long.....
I am not after super light loads or heavy loads, just middle of the road.

I have a spreadsheet where I have VMD in col A, grains in col B. Col C = A*B so I have a starting point of what disk size I need to get a given charge.
I set col A to = $K$1 (a static location pick someplace) then all you have to do is change thje VMD in that location.
Charges on my sheet start at 2 and inc by .1 just copy the formula down. B2=2, B3=B2+.1 etc. For higher charges down lower in the sheet I incread the inc.

Ah heck I will zip it up and attach it case anybody is interested. There are listed VMDs on a page towards the end of the workbook.
Some VMDs on page one are listed VMDs some are caculated. Always weigh your charges, what the sheet shows my not be what your measure throws....

Use any data found on the pages at you own risk. Neither THR or myself assume any responsibility for the information shown or caculated.

1kperday, Walkalong, gonoles 1980 care to share any 9mm load info for it? ( I can dig thru posts but I am being lazy and hoping to get some here ):neener:
(Also it might make it easier for others to find them as well, since Graf has this powder in stock or did this morning)
Hodgdon only shows loads with a 147gr bullets in 9mm. They list loads for HS6 down to 90gr bullets so one would thing WSF would work OK with 125s given the right charge.
.45 loads listed 155gr to 230 gr. No loads listed for .38 or .357 Must not work in revolvers:p
Maybe start around 4.2 with a 125 gr in 9mm?????

This is all I have for 9mm data. And I need a validation of the N320 data:

AA#7 VMD .1007 (Used twice, had exact on the 2nd time I used for weight)
N320 VMD .1538 (It was .1422 when I was using it for the 357, thus my concern).

My method is to get the measure off the powder meter and divide by the grains used.

Called Hodgdon
9mm 125 lead 4.0 to 4.7
they had nothing for .38/.357.
Found posts, just a sanity check.

As I side note I was supprised how quickly I was able to contact someone at Hodgdon. I was only on hold for about 2 minutes.
I don't know if this is the norm but I give their CS a thumbs up.

Holy smokes, no wonder it was in stock for so long there prices are $60+ higher than most places on there 8lb'ers.

yeah 80 a lb before haz. and they want 205 for 8lbs of benchmark. lol i got 8lbs of benchmark for 165.

True, ordered primers as well so that spreads the HAZMAT.
Funny, first time I ordered primers I was expecting super packing....
Got normal packing and a $28.50 red sticker.:what:
I don't enjoy paying HAZMAT but ya got to.
Graf's may not be the cheapest but at least they are not like some places that have jacked up the price $$.
I don't know what WSF was going for before the "shortage"

All my LGS want about $30 a pound when they have powder in stock.
