Very nice pistol. It is functional with ball ammunition and is very easy to shoot

The rumor is that the serial numbers began at 1000 and they are now about halfway through the projected run. The small sights are easier to see than I expected, well centered and shoots a bit low for me- higher, no doubt for other shooters.

Well, you've moved up to a pistol firing FIXED ammunition. I'm impressed and like your choice of sidearm, pardner. :)

I have one like that but it was made in 1919... still shoots pretty good.

I have a circa 1919 Colt 1911 as well but it is a commercial model. Shoots well too. Doesn't even give me hammer bite!

My local gunshop (not one that is noted for sweet deals) has a WW I 1911 that I fondled last week. I'm looking for a 1911 but the $1000 price tag was enough to give me pause. :uhoh:

Well, the question is...would you rather have two $500 guns or one really fine $1000 gun?

The SN on mine is 21xx and I paid $999 plus tax for it. It's only money. :)

And in 6 months you won't even think about the money- unless, of course your wife walks out. If that, happens, you can always hold the door open for her and sing " I Love A Parade as she trundles down the sidewalk.

Yeah, and that big azz hammer will eat the web of your shooting hand 'just like an original' too!:D
I have one of the earlier WW2 replicas and like it lots,(But I switched out the big azz hammer on it too!:uhoh: )

It really depends on your paw. I've shot a score of different kinds of 1911, and regularly shoot a Sistema Colt (built in 1948, pure stock), and have never, ever experienced hammer bite.

If it bites you, go ahead and change the hammer. But there are plenty of us that like the old hammer and have zero bite issues.

@mec: that pistol rocks, ever so much...

Took the words right out of my mouth. I have never been bitten my any hammer whether it be 1911's, Browning Hi Powers, etc. I guess a lot of guys have fat hands.

The tang on the 11 A1 draws blood on me after a few shots. I can shoot a hundred rounds with this one before the irritation ever starts. A friend of mine has skinny hands and neither one bothers him a bit

I've heard That Colt has projected a run of these totaling 4,000. I looks like it has taken a couple of years to get half way through. Finding one to buy may be tedious but the number suggest that there will be plenty of them for the people who want them. 4,000 is a lot of guns for a notch market of enthusiasts.

Yes, sigh, I have big, fat, meaty paws in place of regular hands.
I sold not one but two SiG P210 pistols because I couldn't shoot them without wearing gloves or drawing blood.
Because I have gienormous hands, the shooting gloves don't last long either,,,,,
