WWII find - What would this be and fit

Historic weapon, no. Historic ammo, I think so but have no idea what it is.
Maybe a blank or a ????

Thanks. I never saw a blank but the configuration let me to think so.
The LC 61 sounds right although the 'owner' thought it was a WWII relic.....guess not.
