Doubtful..

it springs from Soros, it shows the U.S. 24th in murders and 8th in murders by firearms. If controlled by Soros I'm sure it would have figured out a way to put us on the top of both those lists.

I've used nationmaster before and find it to be accurate and objective. Having had this argumnet several times, my advice is you shouldn't get bogged down in reported crime numbers. According to nationmaster "Crime statistics are often better indicators of prevalence of law enforcement and willingness to report crime, than actual prevalence." Reported crime stats are almost useless. NOLA had a relatively low rate of reported crime despite being known for drunken foolishness and widespread corruption. Why? Because they just don't report a lot of the petty crime that other departments report to justify funding/staffing increases. People stop reporting crime when they don't believe any meaningful resolution will occur. There's also differences between how crimes are classified between countries or jurisdictions within a country. People that seriously study crime use victimization surveys; literally ring up a statistically valid sample of random people and ask them '...has someone in your household been a victim of a crime?' That tends to compensate for the un/under reported crime and differences in how they're handled. The US DOJ publishes such figures for the US annually, the Home Office does the same for the UK, and every few years the UN publishes an omnibus survey for comparison. Those numbers show that your chances of being a victim of a crime in general tend to be about the same throughout the industrialized world, and in the US the total rate of violent crime and theft tend to be lower than the UK or Australia.
