I'm considering sending my XD subcompact 9mm, which is my main CCW choice, to Springfield Armory to get the Pro Carry Package work done. It's $215. See the details of the package this SA link:

http://www.springfield-armory.com/XD.pdf

The XD sub is a fine choice as is, but gaining a lighter trigger and the addition of the fiber-optic sights has my interest. Does anyone here have any experience with this custom package from SA? Are the SA fiber-optics like Tru-Glo? There are no photos of them at the SA sight. I don't care for the Dawson fiber-optics, by the looks of them at Dawson's website. Is an extended mag release a worthy addition.

Before I drop $215, plus shipping, I'd like some experienced input from those in the know. Thanks

Here is my thought on this. I am certain many people will think otherwise...

I personally dont want much more than the stock trigger on a carry gun. This is for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, its an always loaded gun and that means that when you dress and undress, it will be holstered and unholstered. This is opportunity for the trigger to snag on clothes etc. A light trigger can make that a slight bit more dangerous. Also, I dont know that I truly believe it, but it comes to mind that if you did use your gun in a self defense scenario, a light trigger in court might set you up for something. Thats a lot of internet rumor, so take it for what its worth. That could open you to more civil liability in the case.

I would go ahead and get those Tru-Glow fiber optic night sights and save yourself $100.00 on that trigger job.

The XD trigger is pretty decent as it is, just spend some more time with your gun to train yourself for what it is.

IMHO, I would have a set of big dot nights sights installed and call it good.

A lighter trigger is great for range, but may become a liability in an actual defense situation.

But, it is your money and if that's what will make you happy then by all means go for it.

I am going to take the other side of the coin so to speak. You are having the Pro Carry package done which makes the trigger pull in the 4-4.5 lb range, about where a lot of people like there 1911's. If you think it is worth it do it.

Now if it was my money I would just get night sights and be done with it. The stock trigger pull is right around the same weight as my 1911's and Glocks so it is a non-issue for me.

I have heard people say a light trigger is a liability issue, and that in court its going to be a bad thing. Thats a bunch of bs.. Are they going to test how many ftlbs it takes to pull the trigger? There is no reason to. I mean we have to use logic with this. If the shoot was justified, you could have a hair pin trigger, and it wouldn't matter. If it wasn't justified you could have a 20 lb trigger, and it wouldn't matter. Sure people could bring up the fact "Mr shooter had a light and deadly trigger" but that wont outweigh the fact that a person did something to justify the shooting.

I would take the sights for sure. I don't really like the XD trigger pull, so I don't know whether or not it would give a better break after the job. Hard to say whether or not it's worth it.

Thanks for the input everybody. I may just go the XS Big Dot route for my old eyes and get a Robar treatment for the slide and it's internals. Robar can do the coating AND Big Dot tritiums for about $240 and I only need to ship the slide. No need to do all the next-day-air stuff $$$ of sending a complete gun to Springfield Armory. I'll just put 500 more rds out the business end and smooth out the trigger the fun way........shootin' it that is.

Thanks again for you insights.

now that my xd is no longer my carry pistol i have been seriously thinking about getting some high speed work done on it. it is primarially just the home defense back up gun for the 870, but i want to start using the xd in running some combat courses, and doing some classes, since it is the handgun that i am best with, in accuracy and speed. the handloads really help out but I am pretty good with it. I really like the trigger and might get it down to 3.5 to 4 lbs but no less, but i have gotten so used to it already. i love the three dot sights so i would leave them alone, but i would get the barrel refitted, and get some grip tape put on it, and i think i would be more than happy with it.

I don't believe that having the reset shortened or eliminated and the over travel removed while adjusting the trigger to 4#, will be a liability in a carry gun...IMO.
