Got a few for the sub-compact so bare with me.

First what kind of extractor does it have? It's internal but is it 1911 style?

Second, will full size mags fit in them like the Glocks can(G17 in G19 in G26) ?

Third, now I know recoil is subjective but are we talking J frame smith + or -.

Fourth, what's a good reliable hollow point for sub guns? Meaning, do the 9's have expansion probs like snub .38's?

Also for anyone who knows, there's a going thread on xdforum.com about guide rod replacements. What's up with this and is it needed?

Thanks for puting up with me.

I have not actually fired one of these guns; the closest equivalent I have fired is my personal Kahr E9 and a .40 caliber Glock 27 at a rental range. I have done quite a bit of shooting with .38 and .357 Magnum snub revolvers.

1. The extractor is not of the 1911 type. It has an extractor spring contained within the slide; the 1911's is itself a spring and flexes as the slide cycles.

2. I don't know. That's an interesting question.

3. It will have a much milder felt recoil than a .38 snub, with less pounding and twisting in your hand and abrasion of your trigger finger.

4. Any decent hollowpoint load that works in full-size service pistols will also work in the short barrel. The 9mm, because of the small case, high pressure and lighter bullet, achieves its velocity in a very short time.

5. I have not read the discussion, but my guess is that the gun has a plastic recoil spring guide rod. This is often a topic of discussion on other gun boards, who shudder at the thought of this part being made of plastic and want to replace it with a steel one. What they don't realize is that there is very little stress on this part; it only keeps the spring from kinking as the slide cycles.

Full size mags will fit not to mention .40 mags will fit the 9mm providing you a higher capacity.

Recoil - IMO not as bad as J frame

Any premium brand HP will work fine. I chrono'd WWB JHP 115 grains and found there was only a negligable difference between the sub and 4" versions.

If the guide rod isn't broke, don't fix it.

Extractor? I'm not a 1911 guy so I don't know the answer to that one.

The answers given in this post are purely subjective, no scientific research was done for the purposes of answering Chris's questions therefore no one should feel the need to deconstruct the answers given if it isn't helping to answer Chris's questions.

I hope this helps Chris

Now that's how to CYA.:p

Thanks for the replies. I read the forum over there and it's for recoil reduction. The guide rod that is.

Never owned a Glock or anything similar to this action type. Is it okay to dry fire?

An XD needs to be dry fired in order to disassemble, so I'd say it's okay to dry fire it anytime (any time that it is made safe that is).

Dry fire away bud. It's a good gun, I've trusted my life to the XD Sub before so I don't mind recommending it to you
:D

internal and not 1911 style

It will use 92FS and I have tried 226 mags

I've used Speed 124gr +P no problem

I don't think the recoil to be bad at all. It probaly is on par with a J-frame.
