I have both a XDm 45 compact 3.8 and a XDs 45 3.3. The XDm at 10 yards puts 10 rounds into a 3 inch circle the XDs into a pie plate at the same distance with 1 or 2 rounds into the bullseye. The XDm has a "match" barrel and 1/2 inch longer barrel but what else could explain the substantial difference in accuracy? Is there a difference in the trigger action? If so what is the difference and does that difference make the XDs inherently less accurate?

The trigger is worse on the xds. A smaller grip to hold on to, and more perceived recoil all add up to larger groups. At least in my experience.

How long have you had the XDs? The trigger on that gun will improve substantially after you shoot it OR dry-fire it a few hundred times. Mine was borderline bad, but noticeably smoothed up after 500 or so dry-fires.

Not sure about you, but I've shot two different XDS-45 pistols and make one small ragged hole as long as I do my part. My buddy was all over the place shooting my XDS though. It might just be the way the gun fits you.

A narrower grip on the XDs will likely change your trigger reach and how you pull the trigger. That'd do it. Most people shoot full sized guns better.

Xds @ 10 yards, literally out of the box,(45ACP) shot a 2 inch group.

Recoil sensitivity or trigger most likely.

I have 4 XD's. 4 45's and 1 9mm. I have no problem shooting them except the XDS. I put the spring kit from Powder River in it, didn't really notice much difference. I know it's just me but, if you don't have confidence in the pistol you're carrying, might as well get rid of it.
