I am interested in getting a pocket sized 45. I have narrowed it down to either the Springfield XDS45 or the SIg P250 subcompact 45. Which is better and why? Both cost the same. Thanks

The XDS

The XDS has a single-action trigger - short movement and reset. XDS has a known track record of "boring" reliability with a polymer frame.
While the Sig P250 is a quality pistol the DAO trigger would rank behind the SAO trigger of the XDS...unless you LIKE DAO...then by all means the P250!

I have the XDs and love it. It is my most often carried firearm. Surprisingly accurate and easy to shoot. NEVER a bobble of any kind.

Both are fine pistols.

Pick the one that fits your hands, and has a trigger that you prefer.

1) Empty gun. Hold in one-handed firing grip, pointed at floor. Look at a spot on the wall, close eyes, point gun at spot, open eyes. Are the sights lined up close to the spot?

2) Squeeze gripping hand hard. Do the sights move?

3) Take the gun out of your hand, and repeat. A gun that fits will want to return to the same position in your hand each time.

I have not shot the P250 but it seemed cheap feeling when I looked at it. I bought the wife an XDS and my dad also bought one in two tone. They have both been great little shooters. I would also look at the CW45 from Khar. My Mom has this as her EDC and it has been a good little pistol.

XDS.....except for the grip safety it's a fine pistol. If the 250 were SA/DA and single stack I may have a different reply.

i have the p250 and i am more than happy with it i only gave 339.00 for mine in 2012 from palmeto state armory , bought a xdsc for my nephew in dec.2013 and the best price was twice thr price of the p250 sc which i have no problem with the grip width or trigger .

Have both (sig250 in the compact) and XDS 3.3 barrel

SA XDS hands down is a better and easier to shoot pistol.

I like the sig for its versatility (have conversion kits for 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP)

The XDS is a better pistol; more accurate and easier to shoot.

Bore axis in ALL sigs is high enough that recoil is palpably different.

Not punishing just different with more muzzle flip.

I have and EDC the P250SC in 9mm. Great pistol. When I first purchased it I was uncomfortable with the long trigger pull, but the more I used it, the more comfortable I became with it.

There's no safety, it's a revolver - pull the trigger, it goes bang. The trigger pull is long, but unbelievably smooth. In fact, the long pull is one of it's safeties. The orig magazine holds 12 rounds with one in the chamber for a total of 13. I purchased the extension mag, which holds 15 plus one in the chamber for a total of 16.

It is very accurate, it's not a range gun, it's a self defense gun. That being said, at 25 yards, slow fire, I can put them all into a 5" bull. Rapid fire? Look at some YouTube videos. It's not a problem, and double taps are very easy and quick. The extended mag also tends to keep the muzzle flip down even more than he SC mag, making it quicker and easier to stay on target.

Sure, the XDs is smaller, maybe .1 inches narrower, but the bad guy doesn't care how small the gun was. If you would have asked me several months ago, before I carried and shot the 250, I would have said I wasn't sure yet. Now? I love it.

I also carry a Smith 642 or a Ruger LCP depending on my clothing or where I'm going, but probably 80% of the time it's the 250 carried IWB. I'm an older fart, 5' 11" and 220 lbs. not a tiny guy, and the 250 carries and conceals perfectly in my N82 holster.

Try them both if you can, whichever you choose, spend a lot of time training with and shooting with it and you'll be just fine.

Good luck and stay well....

Pretty much depends on what fits you best. Rent and shoot them if you can. Both are good guns IMO. I had a XD SC and think they have the best trigger out of all the striker fired pistols. I actually just bought a P250 2sum last week and am patiently awaiting their arrival to my FFL, shoulda been here my now :cuss: . I'm more of a revolver guy so a smooth light (7lbs) DAO trigger with 12rnd capacity is a dream come true for me. So it depends on what you prefer.

The P250 was a great value when you could find them on sale pre Newtown for 349.99. But in January (13) Sig raised the retail to 549.99 they became a mediocre deal at best. They really aren't in the same class with XD-S, they are clunkier and have a very long albeit smooth double action trigger. When the Sig was competing with the Smith SD-9 and the Ruger P95 it was in the wheelhouse. But now it's competing with Glocks, M & P's, XD's, Ruger SR9's, and Sigs own excellent 2022 it's over priced. Between the two it's the XDS no contest.
