XTR 1-4x Blur

On my Burris XTR 1-4x, if I have it on 4x, there is a slight blur once you start to move toward the edges of the FOV. Once you are maybe 1/2 to the edge, it's not quite as defined as it was in the center, it's very slight, but noticeable if you look. Though it's not necessarily in every situation. And once you get to the very edge, it definitely starts to blur a little.

Is this normal for an optic of this price range? $700.
 
I wouldn't accept it if it were a new scope, but that's just me. You never know, Burris may have made a bad run and just waiting on users to ask... give them a call.

But if it doesn't happen in every situation, maybe it's oil on the glass or possibly your vision. What do others see?
 
Most likely what you are seeing is what is called barrel distortion that is must evident at the near 1x setting of many optics. The more you spend, usually the more it is reduced. One of the reasons that 1.25 and up is the low end of scopes and why true 1X are so expensive is it costs to eliminate that. It should have no effect on accuracy.
