Year Date Winchester Model 55

Can someone give me a ideal year of maufacture for a Wincester Model 55 Takedown .30 WCF Serial 10553--

If those dashes are supposed to replace the last two numbers, the number is way too high for a Model 55.

Serial 10553 was made in 1929; numbers only went to 20592.

.30 WCF is more commonly called the .30-30.

Well , don't know what to say . The numbers i gave are on the bottom side receiver in front of lever .Barrel says Winchester Model 55 Nickle Steel 30 WCF

There are two possibilities. Madis says that some Model 55's were numbered in the 94 series, which would explain your high number; sorry I missed that the first time. Another is that someone put a Model 55 barrel on a 94, easy to do as the guns are identical except for the barrel and magazine.

If it is a Model 55, in the Model 94 series (which I think is the more likely explanation), the date of manufacture (by coincidence) would still be 1929.
