Hello, I just purchased a used S&W model 41 this afternoon and I'm trying to get some information on it. The serial number is A1960XX. Can anyone give me an idea when it would have been built. Thanks a bunch.

Don't know when it was made, but I do know that 41's are very particular about what ammo they will shoot well and cycle the action. And no two will shoot the same ammo the same way.
You'll have to try as many brands of ammo as you can to find the one or two your nice new pistol likes. The price of said ammo means nothing either.
Mine won't shoot anything but Remington Target ammo and IVI Standard velocity(don't think you can get it). It becomes a jam-o-matic with anything else. Works fine with high velocity ammo(It won't harm the pistol either), but for target shooting, it won't cycle with any other ammo.

When I was shooting them in matches I had one that wouldn't group with Eley match ammo, but PMC did the trick. They can be finicky.

I must be living under a lucky star when it comes to S&W M41's. Have owned two frames with five different barrels and none of them was ever picky about ammo. Mostly shoot HV ammo now but used std vel ammo when competing in Bullseye matches some years ago.

Good shooting and be safe.
