Looking up relic dug cartridges and happened to stumble on one for sale, until today iv'e never heard of the Agar(coffee mill grinder) repeating gun.

Interesting. I read the Wikipedia entry. The Ordinance Department condemned them for using too much ammunition.

If those Ordinance Dept. guys were able to see what we have today I wonder what they would think about using too much ammo? Inventors in those days were working like crazy to design something faster than singleshots and the government was worried about using too much ammo. Typical bureaucrats even then. Out of touch with the real world.

I kind of remember the name "coffee mill gun" but knew nothing about them. I learned something new today also.

I seem to remember that there were about 2,500 rounds fired per casualty during the American Revolutionary War, about 25,000 per casualty during the War of Northern Aggression, about 50,000 American rounds fired per casualty during Vietnam, and something like 250,000 American rounds fired in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I did 2 tours in RVN, and one of my most vivid memories stems from being stationed at CuChi in 1966 and watching The C47 gunship fire at night over the Iron Triangle. We would see a column of fire - tracers - then hear a prolonged BRRRRRP, and feel really glad they were on our side.

The coffee mill gun performed so poorly that when Dr Gatling tried to promote his now famous Gatling Gun the ordinance department would barely give it any consideration due to the aesthetic similarities to the coffee mill gun.
His proponents had to continually say this is no coffee mill gun.

That was a Sharps and for a while there was one issued to each Yank unit.
