Your Funnest Pistol or Revolver

Im in the market for a new pistol or revolver. Really hoping to get something that’s purely fun, cool, or pleasurable to shoot. I want something that’s just a little bit different than than what I already own: a G19, Shield 9, and G19 .22.

Thinking about a few different things:
- A WWII styled 1911 a1, the auto ordnance model
-Some sort of .22 DA or DA/SA revolver
- Some kind of classic .38 or .357
- an all metal DA/SA pistol with a rail, like a 226 or similar
- a full size Glock 21 style pistol

I’m open to all of the Highroad braintrusts suggestions, but it needs to be semi reasonably priced and be in a common caliber :9mm, .45, 357/.38, or .22 in that order. I’m almost completely against .40, but a pistol that offers the 40-9(-357) conversion easily could be in the running like a G22 may be a possibility.

A pistols ability to accept preban magazines is a major bonus since I’m behind enemy lines in Massachusetts. In fact, I’ll be trying to swap a preban magazine for most of the value of whatever pistol I decide on.

Thanks in advance!

You already have two Glocks, so I personally wouldn't lean that way.

A WWII styled 1911 would be very nice, unless your eyes are old enough that you can't use the tiny sights. If there is a classic looking 1911 you like that has more modern sights, that would be my vote.

My eyes are young but not great! I really appreciate the history of a 1911 which is why it’s appealing.

Part of my hesitation about some of the guns I listed and have been suggested is that in MA, “high capacity” options can disappear without notice, legally. It’s happened before. I give a lot of thought to purchasing anything because I may not have a chance to get some things again.

IMG_0167 (2).JPG As far as 38spl DA/SA my model 10s would be my most "funnest." For 38/.357 it would be the 5"GP100. IMG_1294.JPG "

To me it is between a SIG-Sauer P226 and a DA/SA .22L.R. revolver like the SP101 or the GP100, the SP101 being probably more versatile and even more fun that its bigger brother.
I have the this version of the SIG-Sauer P226; it is a great gun at the range, both as a shooter and as a conversation piece. (pic from italian importer Bignami S.p.A.)

But... my most shooted gun is my .22L.R. Weihrauch 6'' target revolver...

A full size 1911 in .45acp is a must for every collection. Careful though they are addictive.

My funnest handgun is a S&W 617 10 shot revolver. Shoots any 22 ammo, shorts, longs, LR, Quiets, collibri, stingers and even Thunderbolts. Mine is very accurate. Add a decent 22 lever action, like a Henry, and it's almost all the 22s you will ever need.

Hard to narrow it down to only one....but of the numerous handguns I have accessible, 3 vie for first place. The Ruger standard model is accurate and easy to hit with and being a .22 cheap to shoot..........but sometimes we just want more blast and recoil.....The S&W Model 19 is so easy to make hits with near or far........but there aren't really any cheaper centerfire cartridges than the 9X19mm and the Glock 17 L is really fun.

My buckmark is my favorite handfun....

Other suggestions

Canik tp9sfx, easy to shoot, and accurate.

Gp100 in .44 special, those big bullets are fun in and of themselves.

Ruger Mk II Government target is my favorite fun gun...

But my Dan Wesson M-15 is the most fun centerfire...especially with wadcutters charged with Bullseye and a set of scaled-down handgun silhouettes... mainly because it's five guns in one...(2",3",4",6",and 8")

Stay safe!

As a fellow MA gun owner I would go with the Sig P226 or a Beretta 92FS . They are not stupid expensve, they shoot nice, and there are pre ban hi capacity magazines for sale here in MA for them.

There are plenty of fun-guns available including full size .32s cut the most fun I have at the range always includes a .22lr handgun. (or rifle) pick your platform semi-auto or revolver and find something you like.

I like the S&W SW22 Victory pistol. I also have an older S&W 22A. If you would rather a centerfire style pistol the M&P22 is good too as is the Ruger SR22.

Of course there is always the Ruger Single Six which now comes in 6, 7, 9 and 10 round models. The Ruger Single Ten is fun fun fun! The S&W M17 is my favorite .22 revolver of all times. IMO it can't be beat!

There are many more and no real wrong answers when it comes to .22 handguns so like I said, pick the platform and go for it...

These two very inexpensive guns have surprised me more than just about any gun. They run better than other 22.cals I have had that cost 3 or 4 times as much. And they can be so very accurate for short barrel guns.

And this odd gun has been so much for to play around with. From shooting a box full of 12 ga 00 Buck to 9mm. Still plan on getting the 45 ACP short lane 8" insert. A 20 ga, and 410 ga insert as well. And the quality in the Little Shotgun for around $135.00 has got to be one of the best dollar for ounze out there.

PS They finally finished acquiring the 22,cal interchangeable Barrels, are being blued and will be ready for shipment shoon. Unfortunately it looks like the Centerfire barrels will still not be available any time in the near future.

Now that looks like fun. A American Classic. Farmer as I have said many times, your pics alway's look like they belong on the cover of a Field and Stream Magazine. The way I like to remember how times were, vs some of the stuff we see nowadays. Thanks for posting. Sometimes I am surprised Bolt action, wooden stock 22.cals are still in existence.

I enjoy shooting all of my guns but when it comes to “Fun” I think .22lr revolver or semi-auto. I love my .22 revolvers. Fun to shoot. Cheap to shoot and easy to clean up after. I do not currently have a .22 semi-auto but I am planning to remedy that. Unfortunately I am in California do my options are very limited.

When I want to have fun with guns I take my grandson and son-in-law shooting and we have little competitions with .22’s. It’s a lot of fun.

One thing you might consider since you have Glocks is a .22 conversion for your Glock. Just a thought.

I actually do have an advantage arms slide which lives permanently on a Glock frame.

I too love behind enemy lines and I know the struggle. I’m feeling like a smith 43c may scratch my fun .22 itch and might also be something I could carry. Does anyone know how the DA trigger is?

I mostly shoot a polymer framed striker fired pistol as that is what I carry. There are two handguns I like the best. one is an old Dan Wesson model 15 .357 revolver although sadly I only have the 4" barrel. I don't have the whole pistol pac like Riomouse. The other is a Ruger SR 1911 45 acp with a 5" barrel.

One of these days I need to pick up a quality .22 target pistol. Not a handgun but if you just want to plink & have fun it is hard to beat a .22 rifle.

The pistols and revolvers that, for me, are fun to shoot are: Ruger SR-22, Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt with my handholds, Beretta or Springfield in 9mm and S & W Bodyguard .38 Special.

Funnest? Ruger Super Single Six. Stainless, 5 1/2" barrel with a 22 mag cylinder. Shot it a gazillion times. Could toss a pop bottle in the air and break it everytime. We'd sit up in the barn and as pigeons approached, I could shoot them on the wing. That was fun..

Belt fed autos were probably more fun, but i didnt put as many rounds through them as i did my little .22.

Funnest pistol/revolver I own? Ruger Mark II six inch barrel, fixed sights, front sight cut for 3 inch bullseye at 25 yards, apple on fence post sight picture, .22 lr std vel 40gr.
