There is a retailer here offering the Kel-Tek SU-16A for $449.00. I'm very temped to pick one up. I like the idea of a folding rifle in something more powerful than .22 for the BOB, also for H.D. and varmit hunting.
Anybody have one of these ?

I have an SU-16B, shorter, thinner barrel with an AR-15 type front sight post. I've very happy with it. If you are able to buy one in your state, I'd recommend the "C" model as it can be fired with the stock folded, has a threaded barrel for brakes/supressors, the AR-15 type front sight post, and a Mil-spec picatinny rail on top (the earlier A and B models did not have a true mil-spec rail)

More information can be found on the Kel Tec Owners Group's SU-16 board here.

You might want to look over all the SU-16 variants and see which one you like best; they should be reasonably comparable in price.

I like the SU-16CA best, as they moved the front sight back to the end of the forearm, so it's not dangling in the breeze like on the A model. Plus it has an easier-handling short barrel.

Thanks guys !

If I had my druthers. I'd druther go with the SU-16D12. I'm going to have to drive over the shop running the special and fondle a few I guess. It would help if price :banghead: were not an issue. Thanks and a tip O' the Stetson !

I've has a 16A for quite a while and have been very happy with it.

It's about a 2moa rifle, trigger is a little heavy for target work but a clean break. I would have preferred the C model sights, just can't get used to the big orange blocky sight, mine wears a scope anyway so I guess it doesn't really matter much. It shoots everything without a hitch, no FTF's/FTE's in a couple of thousand rounds, using every kind of cheap magazine available.

I have the su16a and I like it alot. If you plan on using the fixed sights I would suggest one upgrade. The su16a adjusts the windage and the elevation with the front sight which kind of sucks. My gun needed the front sight blade way over to the right to shoot to point of aim. Kel tec sells a windage adjustable rear sight for $15 that solves this problem. Now my front sight is centered and the rifle shoots to point of aim. Mark

Kel Tec also offers a "Bravo" sight upgrade for the A model for about $50. It replaces the plastic front sight assembly with a metal one using the AR-type front posts. An SU-16A + bravo sight kit upgrade will result in the longest sight radius and barreled SU-16 using AR front posts (can upgrade to tritium night sights).

While we're talking about upgrades, Kel Tec also is offering a 'shortened fore-end' to replace the integral bipod. It has a picatinny rail running along the bottom (6 o'clock position) so you can mount a weaponlight or vertical forward grip (er, or both). Kinda disappointing that there is only one rail at 6o'clock :( It needs at least 2 more at 3 and 9.

The big drawback on the SU-16D is it is a Short Barrel Rifle, which requires Kel-Tec up the price by $200 to cover federal tax plus a $200 tax every time the rifle changes ownership. The 9" pistol version sidesteps this $200 tax for Kel-Tec and future owners.
