Zen and the art of gun cleaning

I keep a slightly oiled shop rag in my gun box.
I wipe down and brush the chambers in the revolvers before I go home.
I clean the rails of the Bullseye gun during the prep period and between targets.
I don't clean the action pistols.

I clean my rifles to an obsessive cleanliness after every time I shoot them.

This is a great thread. I like cleaning my guns. It is very calming--like sharpening knives or cleaning/polishing boots.

My guns are about the only thing I truly enjoy cleaning. It is calming to sit down, relax, and carefully clean out the build up after a great afternoon at the range.

Songs for the CD to include,

George Jones's "Hotter Than a Two-Dollar Pistol"....(actual title, "The Corvette Song")

Creature , that's not a bad idea, if you were at a public range that gets a lot of action like sebastion, where there are a hundred people at any given time on weekends.

I like smoking a fine hand rolled cigar when cleaning my guns, while there both still legal.

Like a guy above me said, it's the same as with sharpening my knives. I can get one knife razor sharp and have to go looking for more to sharpen. That, and cleaning my guns, is my relaxing time.

I like cleaning my guns, it does have a bit of a zen feeling to it. Nice, cool room, music, clean rags, plenty of patches...Doesn't get any better than that, I tell you what.

I hate doing it. Its maintenance. Boresnake and lube for the most part, thoroughly cleaned every few thousand rounds, mainly for inspection purposes. I have a Kimber that I put 5000 rounds through before I cleaned it, it never failed.

Now, if it gets wet, ends up full of sand, etc, it gets cleaned pretty quickly. But if it really hasn't been exposed to the elements to the point of the elements getting inside of it, I generally don't worry about it.

To become a "Zen Master"....one must use the "Zen Master cleaning kits" to achieve the ultimate experience.

I enjoy cleaning my pistols, readying them for next time (practice or for real). Peace of mind.
