i have a leupold mark 4 mrt scope on my m1a and went to zero it at the range today. the problem was i couldnt dial it down far enough for 100yds. i was using the first top mil dot as my point of aim. and at 200yds it was still shooting too high to use the cross hairs. what is the solution to this?

this is not unusual for Lueplods. Just go back to where you bought and they should be able to provide you with shims to compensate for the correction in elevation. OR, I've known some guys to do it them selfs with a piece of aluminum pop cans or slices of credit card plastic. Anyway, the retailer should help ya out. If they mounted for you they probably will do it.

You might try the Burris Signature Zee rings with the polymer inserts. You will probably need the offset insert kit as the front of your scope must be much lower than the rear. Is your base a 20 MOA?

Not sure what Pacsd recommends shimming, but don't put shims inside rings if they weren't made that way.

Hogwash!

The problem is your aftermarket M1A scope mount is not pointing where it is looking.

I can't tell from your pictures if the mount has adjustment screws front and back to take the slop out of the single bolt attachment on the receiver.

If it doesn't, it is pivoting back and forth on the receiver and no amount of shimming will stop it from moving every shot.

Springfield has also had problems in the past with the scope mount alignment ribs on the receiver being out of square with the bore.

Your best bet is to spend some real money on a better M1A mount.

If that doesn't fix it, call Springfield and they will probably replace the receiver with a good one.
