If your state allows it, have them use your 223 AR15. I've killed 2 deer with mine using 62gr Federal Fusion. Both were DRT.

I doubt I'd buy a Mare's Leg even if they were very cheap. Ammo cost too much to shoot it out of something that you can't aim very well.
