Ruger American Pred 6.5 Grendel to 6ARC begins

Indeed, Wasn't able to get a good picture of this fired brass. but yes at 29.1gr and upward there are clear signs of ejector marks. I quit shooting at 30.0gr and still had a 30.3 load left to shoot. Which I didn't. These Hornady BTHP Match measure on avg. 1.271" OAL and I had then seated to 1.720" BTO which is touch. Hornady lists 2.200" OAL these were 2.210" so it looks as though I don't have a lot of wiggle room here.

Going to try one more loaded shorter and quit at 29.2gr see what happens.

Id be curious to know how the lower range works out for you. Im limited on pressure by my primers, so probably cant even push to where your seeing an issue, but all the data is interesting.

I've been using CCI400 primers also and so far they are holding up. A slight amount of cratering around the pin but no punctures.

Anyways, just had a fall and broke a toe so it may be a week or two before I get out to shoot again but I will post findings.

That sucks! heres wishing you a quick recovery!

Dell has some of the 450s and some Remington 7.5s, so I'm gonna bully him into trading me for one of my bricks of 400s...or maybe a couple, well see.

Toe breaks suck, your walking around like a penguin for a while. I broke 2 one day pulling the fridge door open quickly and it was vacuum looked and slid right out of my flip flops that were wet and soapy from washing my truck, foot went under the fridge and broke 2 and cut the heck out of my foot. Heal up soon.

Thanks!

I was having trouble with 400's in my Savage 223 so switched to 450's then couldn't find any so switched again to Remington 7.5.. Had 2.5k 400's left from then so tried them in the ARC and they are holding up. Was able to pick up 3k 7.5 a short while ago when there was a Free Hazmat offer.

Thanks! This one happened stepping over a cable. The foot with the toe was firmly planted when I fell and bent it too far the wrong way. But now I have time to work on the loading bench as I cannot go to work.

I'll be using cci 41's I still have over 700 so Woodford a while, there cups aren't any thicker I don't think but hot like a Magnum. I won't be running my ar to hot tho. I kinda wa t to try the win 41 there like $85-1000 the last few weeks, I wonder if there a touch smaller like the other win primers. I'd guess there what's used in the new LC ammo.

Ya that sucks, I've broken a few toes about all you can do is tape them together and heal up.

Dropped a piece of angle on the bad knee toe. Doesn't help walking on the new knee.
TC barrel in 6 arc sounded nifty. Have 3+ lbs LVR powder left over from 30 30 days. Three box's of Speer 80 gr discontinued hot core left from grand kids hunting days. It shot ok. To be continued. That factory ammo shot ok. Not cost effective way to get brass.
Want a pistol frame and 10 inch or so barrel. I'd use a faster powder to cut down on blast.
That Ruger of yours is out of the box nice. Matches my x39. Starting to enjoy small cartridges that are less annoying . But not noticeably cheaper to load

Wish i could order primers and powder :(
I CAN actually, but it requires a bunch of work.....I should talk to Dell about getting an order in tho, Ive got enough primers to last a while but I'm out of some specific powders I need.

a 10-14" pistol would be a really neat platform for this cartridge!

Im going to clean and prep my brass from yesterday here soon. If I can get those magnum primers from dell ill try a ladder back up to 31.5, maybe 32.
Ill also try one of the flatbase bullets and the 107smks.....Im thinking the Varmagedons just cause they look cool....any opinions?

Is the magazine long enough to reach into that modern long throat. My 80 gr are so short. For a new project it has a small range of powder.

Those old 80gr hc were Nast on deer, dropped one of my first bucks with one at a bit over 450 from a nice 243 fn mauser dad used to let me use. I've got 2 lbs of lvr for the arc that will hold me over till I can afford more lol. Really want to try TAC it's supposed to be good in the arc 80gr and down.

The ARC was spec'd to run out of 2.26 STANAG mags, which is why I think they didn't do a straight necked down grendel (also Les Baer already had the .243LBC as a semi-commercial round). With the AICS grendel mags, I've got 2.4" I can load to, but I'm actually hitting lands about .035 short.

Ive got one box of those HCs in my stash. when I get my ultralight ARC ill probably run 80-95gr hunting bullets out of it, which is partly why I've kept all those lighter 6mm bullets even tho I don't have a small 6 (besides the new ARC) anymore.
I do have a personal preference for the 87gr Vmax and 85gr bthps, but any of them should anchor goats and sheep just fine......Probably go heavier for Axis.

The ARC was really built to be AR mag/STANAG compatible. I can't get 108 ELD's into mag length with 243LBC/6mmAR/6Grendel. There were a lot of other rounds built on the Grendel case, the Grinch, Turbo40, FatRat, but not all of them have been built to fit STANAG mags - which is to say most of those have NOT been intended to fit into STANAG mags, and were chambered in bolt action rifles, either short action repeaters or single shots. I'm relatively content with my 243LBC at mag length, and I'm happy getting extra speed from an extra grain and a half of powder capacity, but I recognize that I can't use some other bullets with longer ogives. Pushing the shoulder back and reducing the case length on the 6 ARC wasn't a mistake - it opens a lot of doors to a lot of shooters which wouldn't be interested in a 6mmAR/6Grendel/243LBC because of the limitations for bullet options.

I'm planning to do a 10-12" 6 ARC pistol build next year or so with an Impact Precision action, which I'll double stamp to eventually have a rifle stock and the suppressor embedded into the forend. I'm really tempted to build it as a 6.5 Grendel to gain a little bore capacity, but I think 6 ARC will do what I want out of it. Just gotta decide if I wanna try to get a Manners Night Stalker modified to take a nested suppressor, or do it on a Foundation stock like I planned. And decide what I wanna do with the Manners pistol stock after the stamp comes back... might have to buy another action to keep it running, and maybe do a 300 WSM or 6.5 PRC pistol.

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe a TC pistol frame will come along for mine.

How bout i do a ladder of 80gr HCs over TAC and see what my 25" tube can turn out. Ill save the Noslers for another time.

Went out to shoot with Dad today, we had targets at 4 and 6....hes setting up on the 6 here.

Weather was nice, but the wind was whipping. Weather service said 20mph, im guessing it was gusting higher than that and really inconsistent.

Loads were a bag of 29.5gr of lvr over 106Taps, and 30.5gr of LVR over Taps. Muzzle velocity was 2730avg and 2780avg respectively. The 30.5 were loaded with cci450s, which sho no cratering or deformation.
I also made a bullet profile for the 106s in Quickloads, and at least for my gun it appears to be tracking correctly.

At 400 my come ups were 6 and at 600 12. This tracks with the listed BC of .580 (i found a G7 for the TAPs but cant remember at the moment).
Hits on a 10" at 4 were pretty easy even in the gusty conditions, the 10" at 600 was noticeably more challenging.

The guns an absolute pleasure to shoot, tho im having ejection issues with a loaded mag....ill figure it out later.
Im going to spring for an ECtuner brake (ive never played with a tuner) when i have spare cash.

Next testing will be troys 90 hot-cores over TAC, not exactly sure where to start on those yet.

I also just realized im at just under 100rnds down the tube on this one and just over that on the R95....
