What caliber for Velociraptors?

Would you use 12 gauge shotgun with slugs or buckshot or maybe your M1A in .308?

Velociraptors are only about the size of a turkey, so buckshot will be fine. So would a .223, so your AR or Mini-14 will do you fine. If you're talking about the super-giant-mega-raptors from Jurassic Park, I'd think a 45-70 guide gun would be very nice. Or 12ga slugs, just keep shooting.

Well in the movie the Game Warden (I forget his actual name/title) was packing a 12-gage semi-auto.

This is akin to asking what caliber for the easter bunny, same reality. I am surprised it is allowed.

and he got eaten
Poor situational awareness. And his name in the movie/book was Robert Muldoon. Jurassic Park was a great book and movie. Truly what movies are about... fantasy and fun.

Beat me to it!
DSA FAL Carbine. Short .308 w/ 20 rd mags.

Actually the Utah Raptor was discovered just before they started work on the movie. The guy who discovered them wrote a book Raptor Red from the perspective of a Utah Raptor, kind of different. Had several articles and he talked about his experiences because Spielberg brought him in as an advisor for the movie.

IIRC the Velociraptor is bigger than a turkey, but only about the size of a pit bull.

I'm going with the real threat (the Mega-Raptors from the movies).

So in my assessment so I'd say we're concerned with.

1) Larger than man-sized (estimated 400-550 lbs)
2) Work in packs
3) Some intelligence
4) Fast
5) Takes advantage of cover and likes dense brush cover.

So I'd want something with some serious punch, semi-auto, and about 5 other people with me packing the same!
