Horrible mass shooting in Orlando this morning.
Already more is being made about the type of weapon being used, in a gun free zone I might add, than the fact this could have been prevented by armed on site security.

The left will not waste the opportunity this tragedy has provided them to advance their position.

Whether it's right or wrong, this presidential election will be about controlling the honest citizens of this countries access to firearms.

With the propensity of Trump to make a deal, the unbalanced SCOTUS which appears to be ready to go completely over to the left (4-8 more years of Dem control ought to do it), and how narrowly the attempts on our freedoms have been stopped in the recent past I don't have a lot of faith that things will get better.

I've been hearing it expressed (on another forum, and from a freind that just called) that this incident will result in a change in the mindset of the Left, back towards understanding the need for an armed citizenry.
But instead of this happening, my argument has been that the Leftists do not typically think rationally or open-mindedly enough for this shift in mindset to occur.
In all likelyhood, this is going to be seen as further "proof" that gun possesion needs to be curtailed.

I'm on Twitter quite a bit.
The demand for gun control is greater than the realization this was a terror attack perpetrated by a homophobic young man.
A registered Democrat at that.
He chose his weaponry with care and to make a specific point.

He was in a gun fight with an off duty police officer prior to going into the night club.

Muslim born in NY, saying that he was radicalized and known to law enforcement.

Regardless of any of this, the antis will twist the story and make it the guns fault. They won't make any issue of the fact that he was a radicalized Muslim.

There are no indications he was on any watch lists.
The Gov admitted the Cali. shooters were on a watch list and it did not prevent them from acquiring weapons so really, watch lists are a moot point anyway.
AR15 rifles are chosen because the media makes such a drama show about them, same as AKs were made the dramatic player in years past.

AKs are still readily available but are very rarely used in mass shootings.

While readily available they have jumped in price and it is easier/cheaper to go with the AR15.

Reports that I have seen are calling it an act of terrorism so there may be a chance they won't focus on the weapons used, albeit a small one.

And there was a police officer working at the club, more than likely as a part time. I cannot guarantee that he was in uniform but in my experience when officers do get hired for part time assignments, they do wear all of their gear and uniform. So technically there was armed security on scene.

Definitely the gun's fault and not an Islamic terrorist. Gotta love how Obama and Billary and the rest of those bums have blinders on. San Bernardino... Let's ban guns. Orlando... Let's ban guns. I've got an idea; let's ban the Democrats from continually ruining this country and pretending that Islamic terrorists aren't a threat.

For me at least, the watch list thing is not a moot point. Every failure shouts my government is incompetent. Now obviously in my case it's preaching to the choir, but every one of those failures hardens my resolve and assures my participation in causes that attempt to rectify that incompetence.

Yet again, the AR15 becomes the root cause,,,,

Make no mistake ISIS sympathizers represent the biggest threat to RKBA we have yet faced, I'm not going to sugar coat it they ARE using our hard won 2a rights and recent victories to further an agenda of murder and destruction

I know what the answer is but nobody seems to have the stomach for it.

California is the gun control mecca of the left and yet San Bernadino still happened. Before they even opened fire, those two perps broke numerous laws. None of it made a difference.

Gun control is just a convienient straw man to distract from the real issue, which is a broken immigration system and complete denial that islamic terrorism even exist's.

And in my opinion, demanding more gun restrictions on law abiding citizens is akin to being in cahoots with the radicals.
Opening a PUBLIC venue that caters to a relatively unpopular segment of our citizenry who were doing nothing more than socializing in a comfortable to them area and NOT providing security for those customers safety is frankly criminal in my mind.

We are in agreement but you know as well as I do what the push will be for if public opinion starts to run against us.

You don't think this is the plan? In this case Isis and the anti's both benefit

I do believe this was exactly this young mans plan.
Rest in peace to the victims and thank you to law enforcement for ending this situation quickly and effectively.
It should have ended long before you guys responded.

There was an off duty police officer working security, he engaged the shooter prior to him getting into the night club. So there was a level of safety provided to the people who were there.

The police officer probably saved lives by spotting him and engaging him prior to entering the club. It's to bad that probably none of the people inside were armed and could've saved more.

None of this matters now and will never be mentioned by the government or media.

Awesome that the Club was in fact looking out for their patrons.
Sad that the ODO was not able to neutralize the threat early on.

Most clubs of that size have some kind of security, add to it, the fact it was a very popular gay club and the amount of Homophobia in our country, I'm thinking security was a no-brainer. I doubt they ever envisioned an attack of this magnitude tho.

I have been hearing the firearm being referred to as "a long gun of the AR15 type", than as an Assault Rifle. Seems the ones most referring to it as an "Assault Rifle" are the old white guys that are the supposed "expert" commentators.

This is a horrific tragedy. I see so many here referring to it as political fodder for anti-gunners, while using it as fodder for pro-gun interests. I was really hoping we could wait a while for that, and instead use the time and bandwidth for prayers and sympathy for the families of those that died and for those folks fighting for their lives in hospital beds.

Don't think for a second we aren't.

But unfortunately we must stay within the VERY limited scope of this forum

Class G license is apparently a license a security guard or a professional would have to get. It requires much more training than a standard ccw license.

It's good that security is provided.
I live in a very rural area and night club is an AmVets and a couple of taverns.

I have sympathy for every single person who loses their life in such an incident but that won't make me stop standing up for all the law abiding firearm owners at every opportunity.

"Gun free zone" comments, here they come.

Love how people always say this, but have no clue that the mass shooting happen at places people wouldn't normally be carrying guns. You going to go dancing with strangers with a gun? No, no sane person would either.

The fallout from this terribly horrific is going to be fascinating to watch. First, it took place in generally pro-2A Florida. What will the government's response be? Second, the murderer Omar Mateen appears to have Islamic ties. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack but ISIS sympathizers have reacted by praising the attack on pro-Islamic State forums. Was Mateen foreign born? What impact if any will this have on where the chips land?

Lord have mercy on those that were killed and on those still standing...
