Need advice, buyers regret

Well went to the lgs today to buy a .22 ended up with a deposit on something on the opposite end of the spectrum. Ruger sbh bisley 44 mag,3.75" ,Bowen sights,like new. Tag said it is a montado edition. But looking around i can't find anything about a sbh montado bisley. Paying 700 out the door, put 500 down. But still need to go and have it added to my permit.

Now after getting home and letting the excitement die down I'm kinda second geussing myself. It would be a fun and a decent side arm for the woods. But a 22 makes more sense. My lgs is really good about switching deposits so that would be a non issue. Honest thoughts,what do you guys think? Keep it,or just putpny deposit towarda a single six convertible? She sure is purdy though
 
I don't know anything about that edition of the SBH- but I don't see why you're regretting anything. That's a nice looking revolver and I can imagine that it'd be a ton of fun to go shooting with.
 
It is nice. But... A .22 is super fun.. the tough life choices we must all make.
They didn't have any .22s you liked? I have a Browning Buckmark and love it.
 
My own choice would be to trade off. I'm not too partial to a 3 3/4" barreled .44 Magnum, and even less in Bisley configuration, and would much rather have a blued version. My alternate would be to chose a Flat Top in either .44 Special or .45 Colt.

Those just my opinions, you understand.

It's a nice looking gun, and if you went on to get it then no harm done.


That being said - if you are having twinges of buyer's remorse almost as soon as you get home, that's not a good sign. I'm sure you have a reason, and nobody knows your situation as well as you do. True enough that you can always get a .22 later, but I am guessing there is something your intuition is trying to tell you.
 
If you reload, I'd keep it. .22's are easier to find than a gun like this. You probably won't run across another one of these any time soon.

The reason I qualify my choice with reloading is that it won't be that much fun to shoot with full-power .44 mag ammo. But with .44 Special to 1,000 fps loads , it would be a lot of fun.

Don't reload yet. I will hopefully someday. Don't have space in the place we rent right now. That's why I went to buy a .22 pistol cheap way to improve and shoot more often.

That to me is the important thing. It is not often you find a gun that "just fits me right." I sold one of those once and still regret it. A .22LR will be readily available. This beauty that fits your hand so well is one in 10,000 maybe. And it seems reasonably priced for what it is; not a bargain but not over priced either.
 
Also they did have a really nice used stainless single six with 2 cylinders, but it was fixed sights.not sure how poa/poi is with fixed aight 22's. Had a new single six there as well.
 
Keep it and then buy a heritage or other cheap 22 sa if all you want to do is practice with a revolver.

That’s a very fine looking 44 and I think you are being a bit too pragmatic and overthinking this. You obviously like the gun or you wouldn’t have put down $500. Let the experience be fun and enjoy what you shoot. Life is too short to not have your heart into it.

Man, it's a bit out of my price range, but that's a heck of a gun. I'd carry that in a heartbeat.
 
If you truly have no physical or emotional need for a 44, even one that beautiful, by all means go get the 22. But if it were me, I could not of passed up that bisley....
 
Nice looking gun, though I personally would have no interest in shooting magnums through it...the thought of it hurts my hand!

Since you don't reload I'm thinking you're not going to be shoot that gun much unless you have a ton of money for ammo. Most .44 Magnum ammo will cost you a minimum of a dollar a round and up. There are some manufacturers like Magtech making FMJ ammo for 67 cents a round for the range. .44 Special ammo is hardly any cheaper so your range time will be limited with that revolver. If your aim was to shoot more that revolver won't get you there IMO.

I have several SA revolvers in larger calibers but I also have a .22 Single-Six that comes to the range most days.
 
That’s a beautiful revolver! I don’t own any .44 magnums. However, I can easily see why you were tempted by this one as I would be too if I ran across it. I have a Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt and love the grip on that thing. Not personally fond of .22lr, but I understand your dilemma.
 
I also have a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in 45 Colt and it's a great revolver. I don't like the Bisley grip frame on the Colt but the Ruger is different.
 
It seems clear that you don't want the .44, but you're worried you won't have another chance in the future. That's a hint! Switch to the .22!

The world is full of .44 Mag pistols, many more practical for the caliber than that one. Find a .22 you can afford to shoot more that 50 rounds a month through. In 10 years when you're reloading, find a Bisley in 45 Colt.

While the 44 is pretty, it's NOT a remarkable price for what you will get from it. You want to shoot more, and the 44 is not how to accomplish that.
