I recently moved to upstate ny, which limits my gun selections somewhat, and I’m looking to purchase a rifle. Mostly as a range toy, and secondly, but less importantly, as a HD gun.
My only only other rifle is a Henry Golden Boy, with a Skinner rear peep sight, which I do enjoy.
Most important to me is a gun which is fun to shoot, then how nice the gun is, then cost of ammo. Cost of the gun isn’t very important, but of course it matters somewhat.
My ideas:
Marlin 1894c or 1894 csbl. Both shoot cheaper 38s and more potent 357s. The regular c model looks nicer to me but would need a peep sight, which I believe is an easy trade.
Henry Big Boy Steel
Looks nice. Maybe better made than the Marlins of late. Would also need a peep sight. No loading gate is a downside, but not a deal breaker.
Ruger PCC
Cheap 9mm ammo. Mag limit of 10 in NY. Already has good sights. Easy to mount a light. Less potent for HD than a 357, but easier reloads. Seems to have good reviews.
Any advice?
