While I am not involved in the Cowboy shooting scene, I do have a couple Uberti 45 LC firearms that I consider beautiful and more fitting for that sport. I also own a 44 mag Big Boy and today I had the chance to fire it for the first time at the range and turn a new rifle into a used one.
It shot quite a bit above target at 50 and 100 yds, so I changed my point of aim and compensated, the rear site was set at the lowest as it could go. I also shot about 6 shots at a chicken silhouette at 200 yds and was shooting low. It's gonna take some practice. I can live with the rear site. It is an improved version, I understand the earlier rear site elevation adjustments could even come loose and fall off. My sights stayed put.
If I do replace this I would put a brass colored Skinner "BIG BOY" peep sight in the dovetail.
I could care less if the rifle isn't a historical copy of any of the old Henry, Winchester or Marlin models. It is a rifle all it's own and all that matters is that I like it. It is heavy, but that helped with recoil being so. I shot a combination of two different 44 mag bullets and they all fed nicely. Hornady 225 gr FTX Leverevolution and UMC REM 180 gr JSP. I think I can get better grouping next time out.
I have no regrets buying it. If I hunt deer with this rifle, I'll have to carry it to the stand in a soft case. I think it is too nice to booger up with dings and scratches.
