Every day for this entire year I will post old school printed gun ads each day.

Trust me, the Tommygun was a heavy rather klutsy gun. Yea, ok, it's an ICON of American guns (due to gangster and WW2 movies) - - - but that doesn't mean it's the best thing since sliced bread.

A Tom Mix-like guy is responding to rustlers stealing his cattle with his Trusty Tommy Gun. Ok.... I'm willing to believe he could do real damage unto those nasty rustlers......
.....and probably a goodly number of the cattle as well.:what:

A nice old ad from the days America was a free country.

But the Tommygun was a commercial flop. Had it not been for WW2 it would only be an asterisk in the bottom margin of some book on Olde Gonnes.

Sorry....but, romantic notions don't change historical facts.

As I've mentioned before, when I was growing up my mom and dad owned a small country grocery store/gas station, and they sold a few guns and ammunition through it. This is one of the catalogs they had on their front counter. When I wasn't pumping gas (no self-serve in those days) I was studying gun catalogs like this one instead of studying my school books like I should have.;)

That is one hell of an ad.. Wow, I need a Winchester now...Thanks

Hey a little background on the photo you posted. Winchester made a little mistake.

And they almost hung the Winchester exec for making the mistake.

Ha,ha,ha,ha! That's hilarious! So those guys weren't even Texas Rangers in the first place?!? They were Arizona Rangers! Man, that is funny!:D
To know the true story of the Arizona Rangers is to not mock them in any way in the least.

Knowing the absolutely epic legacy that Cap Mossman set down is to understand why they reigned the Arizona Rangers in to the point of disbanding them... TWICE! The last time permanently.
The Texas Rangers were only hog-tied once - and yet remain. Such is the fate of the heeled.

These are obviously the Post Roosevelt Rough-Rider-Carpet-Bagger Arizona Rangers and still, taken lightly was a one time and fatal mistake.

Todd.

Mr Norma ...

Or if I may be familiar and call you 308, could you look through that fine outstanding 1962 Winchester Catalog and see if Winchester is still selling its 1873 or 1892 models and also in what calibers???? And if you could be Christian enough post a photo of that page I would be ever in your debt,, Awesome catalog...

Also a photo of the 22s offered would be moocho appreciated.

I had a Marlin 120 once. Nice gun but heavy! It had a 32" full choke barrel, and would really reach out and touch things. My first and last 3" 12 gauge.

Every thing is relative who had the cash in 65 to spend $89.00 on a Luger? (not me I was 11). I remember reading the Herter's catalog, everyone of their products was the best.
I have three books by the Herter's one is a two vol. guides manual, it has a lot of good Ideas and some a little questionable (like dumping manure into a pond to make the fish grow bigger).
The other is a cook book called "Bull Cook and Authentic Historical Recipes and Practices". It reads like every other person who ever cooked was an AH.
It is a fun read though.

Those are barrel weights, to tame "recoil'.

Sorry Indy, but if Winchester was still selling 1873s or 1892s in 1962, they weren't listed in this catalog. Here are the 22s Winchester listed though:

First many thanks.. But

Ok, for real..??? Were they useful??? this is a bonking, bucking 22??

were they needed??? did they work???

They put barrel weights on pellet guns too. Not just for recoil, it's to add mass to make it less shaky on those itty-bitty bulls' eyes. I'm sure it helps with recoil too. I give all the steel challenge rimfire shooters a hard time about their compensators helping with their vicious recoil too. It actually does help you shoot faster sometimes (depending on your comp design).
