No need to actively “hunt” them. I use them a few times a year, when too many of them are cleaning out the food from my hog traps.
Once caught you could kill them with just about anything, I use a .22.

You need to place them far enough apart where a single coon can’t be caught in two traps. Yeah, I learned that after it happened.
Never have caught a dog or cat in any of them, just opposable thumb animals like coons and possums.
Trapping and killing them does nothing to discourage deer, from what I have seen, it encourages them, eliminates the competition. Same goes for hogs.
Friend of mine swears by these. I'm going to borrow a set right after our rifle season. I'm now up to 5 of the %^%$ things on my feeder, plus they took a a lot of the apples from my trees in my deer engagement area, breaking branches in the process. I'm now convinced trying to peacefully co-exist with them isn't going to work.
