Quick Question: Re-Finished?

I'll go with original.

Most often when a Colt is refinished they polish off the tiny and shallow stamped Colt Verified Proof stamp on the left front of the trigger guard, and the assemblers stamp on the left rear, plus usually thinning of the Colt pony stamp on the side plate.
The metal pressed up around the roll stamp letters is usually polished smooth, and you will almost always see ripples in the flats and dished out holes.
Another common sign of a refinish is the sides of the hammer being left blue instead of the correct bright finish.

thank you!!!!!

I'm also going with original. I think I can see a tiny bit of bluing wear on the cylinder edges but the little marks are still there on the frame. I think it has been shot very little and taken good care of.

I might be just a little green with envy.

I’m going to blow my budget and get her out early. It’s was probably stored in the Oak Colt box that comes with it.

I got 2 Colt Officer target that should clear tomorrow. One is .38 and one is .22! I’m going to recreate 50’s and 60’s bullseye shooting! them old dudes are IMPRESSIVE

Looks original to me......and gorgeous!
The Officers Models were their flagship revolvers until the Python came along- they were exquisitely fitted and finished.
was there another class of Colt that was better than the Python? Master Class - or something like that

No, the Python was meant to be a super premium gun, equivalent to the M27 in Smith and Wessons lineup- though there were Pythons worked over by the Colt Custom Shop. Indeed, the last few years of the vintage I-Frame Pythons, they were all ordered through the Custom Shop.

you think the old Pythons are better then the new production ?

Finish no doubt. Trigger and such not sure. I only have an older one. Darn lgs has a couple stainless new models sitting on the counter and they let me handle them. Little I have handled them trigger seems good but haven't tried much.

If colt comes out with a 22lr I will have to get a side job.

I want a old Python, but dang are they collectable now that CZ owns Colt. that goes for all the Colts. Get them now, Boomers getting to age of selling everything, we will see some hidden gems that was locked away for decades.
