I see a lot of mentions about VCDL but not much about VSSA. Is the latter worth joining?

Are the Kick-Eez pads supposed to be sticky right out of the box? I haven't used one before and the one I ordered is actually sticky to the touch. I have a couple of Limbsavers and they are are soft (perhaps softer than Kick-Eez) but not sticky at all. Perhaps the pad has deteriorated in storage?
