Hey all - so last night I did end up disassembling the whole powder thing, hot water/soap, dry, then brake cleaner. This morning it was all dry and lube-free, so I reassembled and just successfully loaded my first 100 rounds of 223! For the record, Dillon recommends ONLY using grease and motor...
Hey all - I decided to start the easy way; warm water and thorough blasting with degreaser seems to have done the trick. I'm going to leave everything overnight and reassemble tomorrow. Ask me if I'm EVER going near my 550B with CLP again :)
I've got one! Is that my best bet?
I wondered about powder sticking to it - then suddenly the brass wouldn't even go up but halfway into the powder die. Because of clumped, clogged, damp powder.....God in heaven what a mess.
As you may have seen from my other thread, I was having terrible trouble with the powder die/assembly of my 550B getting it set up for 223. Turns out I had idiotically mixed up the powder inserts and PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - A 45ACP POWDER INSERT WILL NOT WORK WITH 223. Thank you for your...
Hey Chuck - many thanks for your kind reply. I went back to the shop to check these things and realized I HAD SOMEHOW MIXED UP THE .45ACP POWDER INSERT INSTEAD OF .223. What an idiot. Once I got that straightened out she worked absolutely like a charm - until I added the powder........I'm...
Hey all - I've been reloading pistol calibers on the 550B forever, finally decided to load 223 on it. I ordered the 223 kit and am getting everything set up, but I'm having a heck of a time with the powder die. I took one of the powder dies I already had and put the 223 insert in it, but it's...
Hey all - I've used Winchester 223 40-gr. Varmint-X to great effect last hunting season, and decided to chrono all my guns today to make myself some trustworthy range cards. I shot the Varmint-X from my 18" suppressed 223 Wylde, and the first shot read at 3288. Advertised FPS is 3600 (we all...
Sure thing - that ARCA system does look pretty neat, but the bipod is only 7 bucks more - so why not go for the versatility. Makes a great deal of sense though if you were doing that for all your rifles across the board! Nice setup.
Yeah, after spending a full day looking for a way to put an M-LOK rail on a Savage I'm convinced it just doesn't exist. I manned up and just bought two bipods :) It will actually make life easier, and considering how much I've invested in hunting besides that, it's not that big a deal. And I...
Hey all - many thanks for these great replies. So seems like my best option here would be to go the Kinetic M-lok QD route as that would take care of all the QD-ing without needing three separate QD setups. Only trick now is I'm striking out finding a way to add an M-LOK rail section to my...
Hey all - I've decided that since I can only hunt with one rifle at a time, I'll buy a good Harris bipod and QD it to three different rifles:
Savage .22 bolt with a sling swivel to mount to
.223 AR with an M-LOK foreend, and
.308 AR also with M-LOK
Anybody know the best way to QD to all three...
Hey all - missed a shot today because the GARBAGE scope I have on my Savage bolt 22 failed to hold zero. Never again.
Some pest hunting is legal at night here in Tennessee, and I've come to appreciate the importance of decent light gathering that comes with good glass. That said, the rifle was...
