    really dumb question-butler creek covers?

It has been my experience that the cap dimensions always seem smaller than my measurements by as much as .005-.015 or so. I have them on most of my scopes. I’ve used their chart and they’ve always fit for me..

    Ruger American?

I really can’t offer any hands on experience with the Ruger American. I’ve heard it’s a great value for its price! I have owned a Remington LSS mountain rifle in 7mm/08 since ‘ 99. It is my favorite bolt gun. I don’t reload, but mine loves Hornady American Whitetail 139 gr. ammo right off the...

    Scope for Marlin 1894

I have a fixed Leupold 2.5x 20 ultralight on a Marlin 336 in .35 rem. With one piece Talley ring and base mounts. It looks much like the photo of slamfires 30/30, just a little shorter. I prefer compactness in a scope on a lever gun. Mine has the Heavy Duplex reticle which makes it really easy...

    Folding Table for Cleaning Game?

I have one of those, my wife bought it for me years ago for an anniversary present. I actually find it very useful. I added a 24x30 Teflon cutting board that I can lay across the top when I want more flat space. It is also taller than a standard table. Which makes it easy on the back while...

    Winchester deer season xp ammunition

Size varies with what the bullet hits when it passes through. I've experienced exit wounds with this bullet that range from 1-3 inches in diameter without hitting any heavy bone.

    Winchester deer season xp ammunition

I use it in my Remington 7600 carbine, 150 gr bullet. It shoots about a 1.25 inch group at a 100 yds for me in that rifle. You may want to avoid shooting any deer in the shoulder though, as the meat destruction may be pretty severe. I shoot mine just behind the shoulder only taking out ribs and...

    Which to use?

I tend to agree with jmr40. Hard to beat a .300 win mag. And if your rifle and and ammo are ever separated by an airline, a suitable factory load substitute can be purchased almost anywhere in elk or mule deer country.

    30-30 vs 44 mag lever

I love lever guns. I own four different chamberings, .44 mag., 30/30, .35 rem., and 45/70. My favorite over all is the 45/70. Only the .35 and 45/70 sport optics. But my favorite truck gun is the .44 mag. I really don’t know why I prefer it over the 30/30. Inside a 100 yards it really doesn’t...

    new caliber/new barrel/stock?

How about ditch one and get something else with a different size bolt face. Like a 22/250 or a .243.

    New scope for 25/06

Thanks for the reply. I think the VXR 4-12 x40 is a strong contender. I like that the dot doesn’t necessarily have to be switched on. I think the fire dot would be a real asset on low light shots on black hogs.

This certainly has the makings of a contender. Thanks for the post.

    mossberg 500 for waterfowl?

Scooter22 couldn’t have said it better. Your 500 is plenty adequate for geese. Do stick with the 3 inch ammo though. I have found BB, BBB,and T shot to be the best suited shot sizes here in South Texas if you are using steel. I have also found that in almost every case, an improved cylinder...
