My Dad recently gifted me his Rem. 722 in .222 Remington. It was the first centerfire rifle I shot when a kid. I have a few questions for forum members who have these:
1. What is the rate of twist on the barrel?
2. Serial number is 3385xx. What year was it manufactured?
3. The loading...
Used and new. I admire the big B guns and even own a Browning 725 Trap, which is wonderful for its application. But, it is too heavy to carry afield.
I am looking for a light weight o/u for hunting birds, but the price of the big B manufacturers is too dear at the present time.
I am no longer as limber as I was in my younger years. Appendix carry is not for me. Strong side is my preference, but my ability to reach back is hindered by shoulder issues. I can more easily reach across to shoulder carry position or even a cross draw that is a little forward on the hip.
The man I mentioned in the O.P. is a rarity. How many hunters do we personally know who have killed 40+ elk in a lifetime, many of which were good sized bulls? I am blessed to know him and have questioned him extensively. He adamantly believes that a 30 caliber 180 grain premium bullet is...
There may not be a more provocative question in the U.S. than this one: What is the best elk cartridge?
There are almost as many opinions on the matter as there are centerfire cartridges. After all, we have all seen/heard recommendations spanning the cartridge line-up from .243 Winchester to...
A gunsmith recently recommended that any o/u I buy should have a name that begins with "B" - Browning, Beretta, or Benelli.
Are there any other brands out there that are durable, reliable, and smacking of similar quality?
My 30-06 is a 52 year old Remington Model 700 BDL. It still shoots great.
The current scope is an old Bushnell fixed 6x which has the dial-in post feature. I always liked the post for brush shooting, but it is off-center and not worth sending to Bushnell for repair, since the warranty is long...
Glad I moved out of Colorado last year. I lived there 27 years. It is not the same state it was in the 1990s when I got there.
I moved for many reasons, and militancy against gun owners and even fishermen is now palpable. They are also doing their best to close shooting ranges. Such efforts...
Thanks, Slamfire, for your detailed and well documented reply. I have used Accubonds in my 7mm and 300 mags with good results. Both my sons also shoot them in their rifles for elk and with excellent results. I moved to Alabama last fall and now am preparing to load my 30-06 again for deer...
jar, it is interesting that you had that issue with 165s. Many years ago, when I only had my 30-06, I found that I had to work through many powder/charge weight combos to get 165s to shoot well. In particular, my gun does not like 165 boat tails, although I finally found one load that grouped...
Looking for some comparison data for these two competitors in the cup/draw bullet market.
