Yup. I had a fancy finish BPS and tossed it in the river when it jammed when I had a great chance to triple on canada geese. Nothing but Wingmasters and Benellis in my safe now.
I have a Savage with bull barrel and thumb hole stock and it is the bomb diggity. Even with the crappy combo scope (Cabela's package), it will hit a dime at 100 yards easily. The Accu-Trigger took some getting used to, but I love it now.
My oldest boy is nearly 17 and handles a 1911 just fine. He wants a Glock though - he has much to learn. My daughters shoot too, though just .22s at this point.
Heck - I prefer the 1911 - it's what I carry. I thought a Glock would be easier to teach to possible neophyte sons-in-law. Plus - it's tough to find a good 1911 for 5 bills.
I will be buying either Glock 17/19 or 22/23 for my sons and future sons in law for general personal defense. I want to have them in hand in case they are not available when they come of age. I will also be buying a 23 for myself - my first Glock.
