    Suppressor vs. Muzzle Brake

Hombre, Funny you should bring this up as I just read about this the other day. I won't spoil your fun, but for a quantitative answer, read 5.16 Rifle Recoil Studies here http://www.thewellguidedbullet.com/mechanical_studies.htm HTH LR

    Sliding Scope due to Recoil

Tar. Find a neighborhood roofing project and grab a small chunk of roofing tar. Dissolve it in chloroform or other solvent (e.g. acetone) and apply. Leaves a very sticky film of zero thickness after carrier evaporates. Poor man's substitute for hydraulic brakes for bikes. Applied to bicycle...

    Wierd idea on powder dipping.

Next thing you know, somebody will come up with the idea of replacing your whole collection of dippers with a single "adjustable" dipper!

.30 Carbine Cases From Any Other Case?

Define "easily fabricated". FWIW, 30 carbine blanks are commercially made from .223 cases so it's possible to reform more readily available brass into 30 carbine. Just may not be "easy" or "economical" (for you or your purpose).

    MIG and TIG

The structural cert (AWS D1.1) I had for mild steel of limited thickness used short circuit transfer (GMAW-S). GMAW-S is more than capable of adequately fusing such base metals (Xray qualified). Globular transfer in out of position welding is a nightmare, and spray is such a high heat process...

.38 spl Min. & MAx. OAL

How short a case can 38spl safely use? What does one do with "short" brass? I've never seen a minimum case length spec anywhere and case length will determine your OAL for a given bullet

Small gunsmithing triumphs for the mechanically challenged

Here's my all-time eureka moment Reaming round the hole through my revolver's cylinder for the ejector rod to remove the sloppy manufacturing defect I found before, of course, I noticed the rod had a flat side, for a reason! :cuss: If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and when you do fix it...

If you could only have one press for everything what would it be ?

Lee hand press hands down, so small and versatile, but I don't load 50BMG. The 550B I'm unpackaging today I'm hoping will be a bit faster though

Tuning up a revolver for lead.

Seems tight too, but with an odd number of lands/grooves, the bores on S&W barrels are a little tricky to measure. You can't just whip out your dial calipers and measure the slug's diameter, directly anyway, after forcing it through the barrel. Are you using precision shim stock?

Is it useful to send the NRA-ILA any more money?

As a lifer, I occassionally slip them $10 when I think they are doing a particularly good job, most recently in my mind followed a speech by Wayne L this Spring. When they are just ranting, I ignore them.

Anybody give their kid a gun name?

How about Uzi (Hebrew name meaning My Power)? Seriously, I would never curse a child with an "unusual" or unique name in this digital age where privacy is virtually non-existent.

Need an inexpensive method for case trimming

A $2 pair of tiny locking pliers (at either Harbor Freight or Lowes) is a great addition to the Lee trimmer But there's a better way. Rather than trying to get ALL of my cases THE SAME LENGTH, like I used to do, I just accept the fact my case collection contains all different lengths. So, e.g...
