    .45 ACP Case Durability Question

I`m another that loses brass before it wears out, although I have had some rims get beat up bad enough to hinder feeding a time or two. The cases were still solid and overall were fine except for the rim damage so I don`t count this as "wear"

    Setback in unchambered factory ammo.

Sorry RC but I have to disagree with you here. There has been more then a couple reports of the danger of setback in straight walled ammo. It takes very little bullet movement to alter the volume of the case which is for all actual purposes the "chamber". I doubt the factories take account of...

    m1 Garand using a chronograph.

Velocity doesn`t harm rods the pressure at the gas port is the problem. The powder needs to fall in a specific burn rate as noted earlier and be within peak pressure spec for the cartridge and you`ll be ok. Peak pressure isn`t critical here as long as it is within spec just the remaining...

looking for info about a Kimber

Kimber has a off/on history. The company was originally "Kimber of Oregon" until it went bankrupt in the mid 90s and returned as a new company under new ownership as "Kimber USA". The old company made a M89 rifle if I recall the model right that was hit and miss for quality from what I have...

    New round idea?

It would be very close to the 6mm Rem, a 6 mm bullet in a case based on the 7x57/257 Rbts which is ~1mm longer then the Swede case. Performance would be slightly better then the 243 but not by much IMO

Question about the temperature sensitivity of Varget

Pressure goes up with temp not down, and velocity usually follows the same path. Varget is very temp stabile in the 308 and I doubt it is the problem. I`d suspect the crono is acting up or doesn`t like the lighting you had later in the day. The position of the light comes from can affect the...

    Load Data Inconsistency

Hodgdons data is for a Barnes TSX bullet while Hornady uses its own. The mono-metal bullets are known to run a little high in pressure compared to std cup and core bullets. You`re not comparing apples to apples

    Pressure or bad brass

I am almost certain you are not seeing pressure. Your load is a few grs below Hodgdons recommended starting load and any load I have used in my 708s with the same powder. I am not sure what you are looking at in your pictures and see nothing in the shoulder area that looks out of place, but...

    OAL changing

Concider before altering the cartridge lenght that the gun is designed to reliably eject empty brass not loaded rounds. As long as the loaded round is within spec on OAL I don`t think you`ll see much improvement in manual ejection of loaded rds. Could be mistaken though.

    SAAMI vs. Hodgdon pressures

Are those loads for the 357 magnum or 357 maximum? The actual 357 magnum MAP is 36100 psi, the 357 maximum MAP is 40000 psi

    Remington 6 1/2 primers

Remington specificly states they are intended for low pressure cartridges and not for the 223/5.56 class of cartridges.

    Lee Classic Problem

What Randy said. If you measure a couple bullets from base to tip you will see there is a few thousanths variance in most of them. Your seater if contacting the tip of the bullet instead of down around the ogive near the point of full bullet diameter will seat to a more even COL, but the...

Is there any way to get more velocity out of a rifle?

The only way to increase velocity in a given gun without changing the barrel length is to raise the pressure of the cartridge, not recommended IMHO, or to lighten the bullet weight. A 150gr 30 cal bullet will fly faster then a 180 in a 308 as example and adding 5K psi to a load will raise...

    So, should I re-barrel?

Putting a new after market bbl on the rifle will double what you already have invested in it, and you will still have a bubba`d mil-surp. The rifle seems to shoot the Winchester load fairly well as is and definately is fine for hunting. The group in your picture appears to be sub 2" and closer...

    best lube oil

I believe what you want is to protect, not a lube. Oil tends to run off and dry over time so it is a short term product and needs to be reapplied a time or two a year. Oils can also travel into wood stocks in the action bedding areas, soaking in causing damage over time. Rig grease works...
