    Lgs rant

Precisely this, let's look at it from the other side of the counter. The first guy created a rapport with you and handed off your pistol to get a price check. The second man looked it over and probably went on Gunbroker to check comparable sold prices. Factoring in his time, risk (broken or...

Any Dealers with SOT Experience Here?

It's a steep price to pay and a lot of self learning to play 'race to the bottom'.

    Need identity of holster maker

I'd venture to say the bottom is cut to accommodate 4"+ 1911s, but the holster certainly fits the gun. Albeit little detail molding, there is nice and tight stitching. The wrapped reinforced mouth reminds me of Milt Sparks, but I don't see the craftsmanship. If the exposed barrel renders the...

Do you let people borrow guns?

I used to, but an incident lead me to re-evaluate who I should be lending things to. :what: Make sure to be selective of who you let borrow anything, let alone firearms.

Why brick and morter are dying

There are something along the lines of 70,000 FFLs in this country. Most are home based and their margins are 10% at best - not enough to cover an hour of labor, transfers, depreciation of stock, etc. Brick and mortar stores aren't much better. They may have higher inventory, but play by...

    Hunting with a non-hunting breed?

I can't remember where I heard the story, but you're right: Someone lost a dog while on a leash and was petrified the dog would get caught up and starve in the woods. He called a tracker who said not to worry. Give the dog a day or two and she'll return to her natural instincts and chew through...

Now that you mention it, I think I've used engine cleaner as well!

    Hunting with a non-hunting breed?

I had a Yorkie as a kid who loved chasing squirrels. I always meant to make him an orange vest (so he wouldn't be mistaken for a rabbit) and get him out hunting with me. He was a goofy lap dog, but I do miss him.

    Coloring the engraving?

It's an art ;) Let the milky film dry, then go back at it with a rag covered in rubbing alcohol in a buffering pattern.

    Pillar/Glass bedding Mauser k98

Please, please, please, use a good release agent. :what: I had a rather nice, but sporterized, K98 that I bedded ... and it stuck. I ripped the stock in half getting it out, and ended up getting a new barrel, stock, trigger, scope ... now it's being threaded for a can!

    Negligent discharge today

My grandpa used to say he was genuinely thrilled when his teenage kids came home with a fender bender and crying. Glad to know that everyone is safe. That stomach curling pain will serve as a reminder and safety reinforcement for years to come. ;)

How permanent will paint pen be on a synthetic stock?

I bet that or a gold sharpie would last throughout the summer

    Quiet air pistol TARGET?

I have used the same thing cslinger posted for years minus the handle and clips. The box is magnetic so you can use a fridge magnet clip to mount your targets :) I camo-ed it and leave it outside and it has taken .22 pellets and .22 CBs like a champ and is silent. Looks just like the day I put...
