Alien Gear Holster

I'm not sure the late Todd Green, in this pistol-training.com blog article, is specifically referring to the Alien Gear Coak Tuck 3.0, but you can be the judge.

I have no experience with the maker or that type of holster in general, though I will note they seem to be quite popular. However, in the generic, I'm not fond of large sweat shields that compromise a full firing grip, as noted in the above blog, and I'm also not a fan of clip on holsters.

one of the nice things about alien gear holsters is they're so damn cheap that you don't sweat if you need to tweak the design slightly. I have their clock tuck 2.0 and their OWB holsters, and the latter needed some trimming to allow a clean grip and draw. nothing an x-acto knife with a fresh blade couldn't take care of.

With the IWB holster in the link, wouldn't you be cutting through the stitching to get the sweat shield where it looks like it should be?

I have a 3.0 for my Glock 29. Its comfortable and carries the weight of the hefty pistol well. The leaf spring insert (one of the major differences between the 2.0 and the 3.0) works well and provides good retention.

The materials are durable. The kydex is good. No sharp edges on mine. I like the adjustable cant and depth. Its a bit wide but that is what makes it comfortable, spreading the weight out.

Otherwise, its an IWB hybrid at a good price. I'm glad I bought mine.

One factor in a discussion of Alien Gear is that they are really offering a modular holster system. So they have something like 10 different backs for semi-auto pistols that can mount to any of a bunch of different gun specific shells. The different backs give different attachment types (hybrid IWB, wide belt loop OWB, and paddle style OWB), sweat shield profiles ( no sweat shields, short shields, and long shields) and materials (leather and two different layered synthetic material options).

So to answer the "won't you cut through stitching" question: the leather hybrid backs do not have stitching so no for leather, but yes for the other materials. To answer the "why are they cutting the holster this way" question in that blog post, it is because they aren't designed for a single specific gun.

Personally, I've "bought into" the Alien Gear system because I tend to buy a variety of different guns and I want to have the gear to carry any of them even if they will never be my primary carry. I just buy a new shell for $13 and have a good hybrid, OWB, or paddle holster. As a bonus, storing the shells takes up a lot less space than storing whole holsters. For those who are traders instead of accumulators AG will swap shells so you could switch from a G19 to an XDm holster for the cost of postage as I understand it.

My customer service experiences have been positive. I ordered the wrong part, entirely my fault and I told them so, but they shipped the right part only asking that I send the misordered item back on my own dime. They shipped a kydex shell with a slight crack around the trigger guard and when I reported it they immediately sent a replacement. Can't do much better.

Alien Gear fan as well. I've had the same level of CS as Ed Ames. Excellent, nothing less!

I have three ... love them. Great warranty and exchange program. Basically a lifetime of holsters at a very reasonable price.

I have an Alien Gear 3.0 that I use for IWB carry. Comfortable to wear from day one. Great price as well.

I like my3.0 better than my 2.0. I also have 2 OWB's with no complaints. The shells can be swapped around. I think there are 3 IWB back sizes and 1 OWB. I have only used the plastic belt clips that they recommend. I recently got a 5.11 leather, poly core belt. That made a big difference in the comfort level of all of my holsters. AG's new OWB paddle or loop capable holster looks interesting. I do not have one yet. I want to see one in hand first. I use a cheapo paddle holster when I am working outside to keep the sweat out of my guns. It has been HOT lately. By the time I am done mowing, trimming, and the rest of the yard work, I am soaked through.

My only issue with any of the holsters is my 1911 chews up the holster's backs and shells when holstering the pistol. I guess I could smooth out the front edges. I have removed a couple of scratches on my stainless 1911, and watched some videos on how to de-horn. It looks easy enough.

My phone holster clip digs into my waist when I use it when carrying a holstered gun. I wind up with my phone in my pocket when belt holstered.

I have and wear the 3.0 and find it comfortable and convenient, once I get it in my belt. I have to attach the holster on my belt first then lift my pants and holster my gun. I probably wouldn't have the problem if I wasn't 50 lbs overweight. I've always been used to single clips to attach my gun to my belt this gives me a very secure support for what ever weapon I choose to carry.
I ordered the 2.0 in leather, liked it so much I ordered the 3.0 with two shells. Twice now I have returned shells for sold weapons and got new shells for the replacements. Great service, fast turnaround, friendly personnel.
The shells fit most guns you care to carry. They have a wide selection and even if you don't see what you want they may make one up if the demand becomes popular. Swapping out one shell for another takes 10 minutes with the allen wrench they supply it only takes 5/6 minutes if you use a screw driver type wrench.

I have the Cloak Tuck 3.0 and find it to be comfortable. It has plenty of adjustment to get the fit right. The swappable shells are the reason I bought it. Even though I only carry one IWB it's nice to know I can swap out a shell and carry another.

I also have the Cloak Mod OWB. Again the swappable shells was the selling point. I swap them out fairly often depending on which one I'm taking to the range. I find the design to be childish. I realize it's branding. But having the back look like an Alien's head is very childish. I shake my head every time I take it off and see it. I know many like this design. But I certainly don't.

I have two AG Cloak Tuck 3.0 holsters. They are big and cumbersome, but very comfortable if you can take the heat. Neoprene is hot, especially on bare skin. Tolerable over a T-shirt.

Putting the holster on/getting dressed is a real PIA to me - the rubber does not slide on ANYTHING, so it is close to impossible for me to actually mount the holster if I already have my pants pulled up. I have learned to put the holster in the pants before I even start dressing. And if I don't get it positioned right, I can't fix it without taking my pants down - no way to slide this thing around forward or back. That makes getting it really comfortable a challenge sometimes. What feels good walking around does not always feel good in the car seat (and good luck trying to move it then!). I have found myself going back to the more simple leather IWB holsters more and more, simply because they are so much easier to mount.

Also be aware that the nylon clips will NOT fit a 1.75" gun belt. If you have any desire to wear a decent sized belt, be sure to get the leather loops instead of the worthless clips.

I can't speak much about my cloak tuck 2.0, as I had to "abandon" concealed carry for the time being. (NJ resident, UT out of state permit, PA is where I carry the most, their AG screwed everyone a while back.) I like their shell and back swapping system, so I can choose to carry or game (IDPA) with different pistols some times. Mostly though I carry in my Safariland ALS holster, because retention. If i'm bored sometime soon, and I remember, I'll dig out the CT2.0 and see if it would need any mods.

I have a CloakTuck 2.0 IWB for my full size Beretta Px4 Storm and it carries comfortably. I was shipped only 5 days after ordering.

have always had great customer service.
I am the typical handgun owner that has an average of three holsters for each gun and in my honest opinion Alien Gear is the best the deal , it is hard to beat a life time guarantee , where you can trade an old shell for a gun you no longer have or use for a new shell for just the price of one way postage.
One of my favorite things about Alien Gear is that they have had a shell for every gun that I have and I use lasers on most of my of my pistols and they have had shells that will accommodate my lasers on not all but most of my guns.

Holster

Received OWB for my wife last week and a belt for each of us. Holster is great for the wife's sig. The belts looked great too but had to call them and sent them back both were to long, we measured them right I think but came in to long. Called CS and they were super great. We are waiting for the replacements belts.
