I went and put in three lowers for SBRs and all the stamps have arrived so I have built them and want to use one as a truck/trunk gun like this

but I am debating the caliber. I have one that I built on the JP 9mm receiver built fro Glock mags - so a 9mm carbine that takes the same mags as the Glock 19 I usually carry OR should I use the 11-inch barrel .223 I built OR the 9-inch barrels .300 BLK? I'm leaning towards the .223 right now as the truck/trunk rifle. I have suppressors for all three that have also gotten out of ATF prison. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Mine is an 8.5" 5.56. I would go 5.56 simply for ammo availability and power. Ammo is more available and affordable than 300, more powerful than 9mm

Been kicking this around myself since my lower paperwork should be here any week now, and as nice as the pistol caliber(and matching mags) may be, I think the better range of one of the rifle calibers may be a better pick. I have 300 blackout and 223 pistol uppers i can use, but I can't make up my mind. I may just wait on the pistol cal till I get a lower like yours that takes glock mags, mine will probably do duty as a 300 blackout.

BTW, make sure if you leave it in your car that it's in a safe or cable locked up. Losing a gun to theft sucks, but losing a title 2 weapon would really suck and explaining it may be a lot more difficult. Plus the wait to replace it. Just be careful and prudent.

Is that pack a dedicated rifle pack with retention straps? I am looking for one.

As far as calibers go, I considered 9mm, 7.62x39, and .300blk. I eventually went full circle and came back to 5.56. I wanted to be effective at 150yds maybe more. And I already have a large supply of ammo.

I like the price on 7.62x39 ammo, and have seen the damage it can do on my steel clangers.
I regret not trying it.

I don't like 5.56 for short barrels--you loose too much. You can go 10-10.5 with 300BLK and 7.62x39 and retain 85% of muzzle energy as they are underbores to begin with. I do like the concept. I use a 10.25" AK47 folder as my truck gun.

I'm with Armored Farmer on this, I'd use an AR pistol with brace for this purpose. NFA items just complicate things, especially if you might cross adjacent state lines. The AR pistol with a brace is just a handgun, and with a CCP you should have a lot less to worry about.

I'm partial to 7.5" 7.62x39 myself, although it might take a bit of work to get hem to run right.

Not sure about the laws in your State, but here in Maine you CAN NOT have a loaded Rifle in a vehicle. That's why alot of folks will build a pistol AR for the "truck gun" purpose.
Virginia is the same. I built an AR pistol because of this, but still thought a Glock 17 with 33-round mags was more practical. Still, it doesn't take that long to slap a mag in an AR...
