i picked up a used CZ 550 american in 6.5x55 with a 3.5x10 leupold to go with my swede rifles, i should be able to load this rifle a little hotter than the swede military rifles safely. the price was very good and i could not turn it down. eastbank.

My favorite rifle is my 550 American 6.5x55. It wears 3.5-10x44 MeoPro. I tried several bullets in mine, wanted to shoot 140 grainers, but settled on 130 grain Berger Hunting VLD's as they were the most accurate.

That CZ is sweet; as long as the price was right I don't think I could have walked away from it. I'm a big Swede fan and to the best of my knowledge there's no problem loading a bit hotter than for those military Swedes. Two of my three Mod. 96 Swedes are all original condition and one was sporterized by Kimber back in the mid-1990's. The Kimber sporter doesn't get loaded as hot as I would load that CZ 550 if I had it but the 6.5x55 seems to work so well without even pushing the envelope that it seems there's no need to hot rod it. P.S.... I think that 3.5-10x Leupold is a great scope for a 6.5x55........ Because that's whats on my Kimber Swede; and I like it.

Eastbank;

My Swede is a Tikka action, barely, and the rest is custom. We didn't even save the recoil lug. But, yes, you can push things harder with that CZ action than you can with a mil-surp. I'm getting 2750 fps with the Sierra 140 grain GameKing & excellent accuracy. That carries nearly 1200 ft. lbs. of energy at 500 yards & has proven terminal performance on game animals. The Winchester brass shows no sign of stress & will reload for several cycles, & I usually retire them after 8 reloads just 'cause.

That scope should be just fine, mine's a Zeiss 3.5-10X with the Zeiss #43 mil-dot reticle.

I sincerely wish that CZ made a left hand bolt Swede, but they seem to be headed away from making anything left handed as they report that they have absolutely zero plans to make lefty 455 rimfires.

Your 550 has nicer wood than mine Eastbank.

I'm too lazy to get it out of the safe and take a picture of it by itself but my two CZ rifles are circled. Is your 550 wearing the original stock? The checkering on our two rifles is different.

i think its the original stock, its a older model . i used a CZ 550 in .375 H&H for fou african hunts and it didn,t let me down. CB999F, i also am left handed and have 7 left hand rifles. eastbank.

That explains it. Mine was purchased about two years before the American was discontinued so it's much newer than yours.

Eastbank;

So, if you're left handed, you must have a right dominant eye. It's the only reason I can figure for you to have so many backward guns. No, wait, you stated you've got seven left hand rifles! So are you schizophrenic? Have to buy rifles for other members of the family? Being blackmailed into it? Something about the phases of the moon? What?

just WANT, the last gun i needed was bought in 1953. my dad bought it for me at a farm sale we were at, a sporterized german 98 mauser in 8 mm. it cost me a month of extra farm work to pay for it. eastbank.
